**Score:** 1

##### Heavy dependency on one or two experts

**Score:** 0

**Bands:**

#### Foundation work needed

**Min:** 0

**Max:** 39

**Verdict:** Planning is probably running on workarounds and spreadsheets. Start with data accuracy and a few essential routines before any new tools.

**Recommendations:**

- Audit BOMs, routings and lead times for the top 50 materials by volume.
- Set up a daily COGI and MRP exception review with a named owner.
- Run MRP on a fixed schedule and track how often planners override it.

#### Working but fragile

**Min:** 40

**Max:** 64

**Verdict:** The basics run, but quality depends on individual people. Improving master data control and exception handling will pay back quickly.

**Recommendations:**

- Introduce change control for BOM and routing edits.
- Reduce exception message volume by tuning MRP settings and lot sizes.
- Speed up confirmations by moving them closer to the shop floor.

#### Solid process

**Min:** 65

**Max:** 84

**Verdict:** Your PP process is in reasonable shape. Gains now come from tuning, capacity leveling and better reporting.

**Recommendations:**

- Compare planned and actual times to update routing standards.
- Build reliable shortage and late order reports for planners.
- Look at capacity leveling for known bottleneck work centers.

#### Mature planning

**Min:** 85

**Max:** 100

**Verdict:** Process, data and discipline are strong. Focus on keeping it that way and on targeted automation of routine tasks.

**Recommendations:**

- Automate routine exception triage and keep humans on judgement calls.
- Review the process after any major product or plant change.
- Document and cross-train to avoid dependency on a few experts.

## Content

**Intro:** Before changing tools or hiring consultants, it helps to know where your production planning process actually stands. This ten question assessment scores master data, MRP discipline, execution and reporting in under five minutes.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the assessment

**Body:** Answer each question for your main plant as it really operates, not as designed. Ask a planner and a shop floor supervisor to answer separately and compare scores, because the gap between views is often more telling than the score. You get a total, a band and specific next steps, and you can export the result to share with your team.

#### What the questions measure

**Body:** Questions one and two cover data accuracy: BOMs, routings and lead times drive everything MRP and scheduling produce. Questions three and four cover MRP discipline and exception handling. Questions five and six cover execution: confirmation timing and goods movement errors. The rest cover capacity, reporting, change control and knowledge. A low score in the first group usually explains low scores elsewhere.

**Bullets:**

- Bad lead times produce plausible but wrong planned order dates.
- A large exception backlog usually means MRP settings are not tuned to the plant.
- Late confirmations make stock and WIP wrong, which then breaks the next MRP run.

#### Reading your result

**Body:** The score is not a benchmark against other companies; it is a way to prioritise. Fix data first, discipline second and automation last. Automation on top of poor master data speeds up the wrong answers. Retake the assessment after improvements to see which areas moved, and record the date so you can show progress.

**Cta:** If your result shows a large exception backlog or unreliable reports, Netray can review your SAP planning data read-only and suggest where automation would help and where plain configuration fixes are enough.

**Faq:**

#### Is this assessment specific to S/4HANA?

**Answer:** No. The questions apply to ECC and S/4HANA production planning alike, since they concern data quality, MRP discipline and shop floor execution. S/4HANA adds new tools, but the process fundamentals are the same.

#### Who should fill it in?

**Answer:** Ideally a planner, a production supervisor and the SAP PP key user separately, then compare answers. If you only have one respondent, ask them to answer for the typical week rather than the best week.

#### What score is good enough?

**Answer:** Above 65 percent is a workable base for most plants. Below 40 means master data and daily routines need attention before investing in new tools or dashboards.

#### Does the tool store my answers?

**Answer:** The assessment runs in your browser and nothing is sent to us unless you choose the optional follow-up. You can export the result to PDF or Excel to keep it for your own records.
