## Content

**Intro:** Delivery scheduling in SAP SD turns a requested delivery date into a set of dates for each logistics step. When an order shows a later confirmed date than the customer wanted, you need to know which duration caused it. This calculator reproduces the logic.

**Sections:**

#### How to use it

**Body:** Enter the days between today and the requested delivery date, then the transit time from the route, the loading time and pick/pack time from the shipping point, and the transportation lead time. Say whether the material is available immediately; if not, enter the replenishment lead time. The calculator shows each date as days from today, the slack, and the earliest realistic delivery date.

#### The scheduling logic

**Body:** Backward scheduling starts from the requested delivery date. Subtracting the transit time gives the goods issue date, subtracting the loading time gives the loading date, and subtracting the transportation lead time gives the transportation planning date. Subtracting the pick/pack time from the loading date gives the material availability date, which is the date the availability check works with.

**Bullets:**

- Transit time comes from the route
- Loading and pick/pack come from the shipping point and shipping conditions
- Transportation lead time comes from the route or shipping point

#### Reading the slack

**Body:** If the material availability date is earlier than the date you can procure or produce the material, the slack is negative and the system falls back to forward scheduling, which pushes the confirmed delivery date out. With the defaults the material availability date is day 11 and replenishment takes 10 days, so there is one day of slack. Increase the transit time to 12 days and the order becomes late.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Typical issues are a route with a default transit time that does not match reality, factory calendars that skip too many days, and shipping point times that were copied from another plant. If delivery dates look wrong, check route determination first, then the calendars.

**Cta:** If you want promise dates reviewed against actual transit and picking performance, we can build a report on your delivery history that suggests more realistic master data values.

**Faq:**

#### Why does the system use forward scheduling sometimes?

**Answer:** When backward scheduling gives a material availability date in the past, the system schedules forward from today and confirms a later delivery date.

#### Are these calendar days or working days?

**Answer:** This tool uses plain days. SAP uses calendar rules from the plant or shipping point, so working-day effects shift the real result.

#### Where do transit times come from?

**Answer:** From the route, determined from departure zone, shipping conditions, transportation group and destination zone or country.

#### What if the customer needs a specific date?

**Answer:** Use the slack output. If it is negative, either shorten a duration, expedite replenishment, or agree a later date with the customer.
