## Content

**Intro:** Configured products are priced from a base price plus variant conditions that depend on the selected characteristic values. This calculator reproduces that arithmetic and shows how customer discount erodes margin, so you can sanity check a pricing procedure before testing it in VA01.

**Sections:**

#### How to use it

**Body:** Enter the base price of the configurable material, then the sum of surcharges triggered by characteristic values and by options. Enter your standard cost for the base product and the added cost of the selected options. Set the discount and quantity. The calculator returns list price, net price, unit margin and order margin, and the chart shows margin across a range of discounts.

**Bullets:**

- Use real selections from a recent quote
- Compare two configurations by changing the surcharge fields
- Check the break even discount before approving deal desk exceptions

#### How SAP prices a configuration

**Body:** In SD pricing, a variant condition type such as VA00 stores amounts per characteristic value, and the pricing procedure adds them to the base price. Condition type VA00 is the standard variant price condition. Alternatively, a variant function can drive a price calculated from a formula. Discounts and surcharges after that step apply to the sum, so order of the steps in the pricing procedure matters.

#### Worked example

**Body:** A base price of 12,500 plus 1,850 and 640 gives a list of 14,990. A 12 percent discount gives about 13,191. With a cost of 9,650 the unit margin is roughly 26.8 percent. The break even discount is about 35.6 percent, which is the point where deal approval should escalate. The chart makes the slope obvious: each discount point costs roughly 0.75 points of margin at these values.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Do not forget that option cost must rise with option surcharge, otherwise margin looks better on rich configurations than it truly is. Check that costing of the configured item uses the same selections as the order, and confirm rounding rules for currencies that have no decimals.

**Bullets:**

- Pricing a configuration with default characteristic values
- Applying the discount to cost instead of price
- Ignoring that standard cost may be calculated per sales order

**Cta:** If your configured product quotes disagree with the margin finance sees later, Netray can help trace pricing and costing for a sample of orders and automate the comparison.

**Faq:**

#### What is VA00 in SAP?

**Answer:** VA00 is the standard condition type for variant prices in sales pricing. It stores amounts against characteristic values so that the selected configuration adds its own surcharge to the base price in the pricing procedure.

#### Can price depend on a formula instead of a table?

**Answer:** Yes. Variant functions can calculate a price from characteristic values, for example by area or length. The result feeds a condition, so the same net arithmetic applies.

#### Why does margin differ from the cost estimate?

**Answer:** Costing of a configured item can be done per sales order with actual selections, while the quote may use a generic estimate. Compare the two for a sample of orders.

#### How do I find the discount limit?

**Answer:** Use the break even discount output, then subtract your minimum acceptable margin. For a 20 percent floor you would solve net price equals cost divided by 0.8 and compare it with the list price.
