## Content

**Intro:** Schedule adherence tells you whether the plant did what the schedule said it would do. It is one of the most useful signals for a planner, because poor adherence means the plan is unrealistic, the floor is unstable, or both. This calculator puts the common measures in one place.

**Sections:**

#### How to use it

**Body:** Enter planned and actual units for the period you are reviewing, normally a shift, day or week. Then enter how many jobs were planned, how many finished on time, how many finished late and how many unplanned jobs were inserted. The calculator reports capped attainment, on-time completion, jobs missed and schedule stability. Use the chart to see how attainment responds to output, and compare the values from week to week to find trends.

**Bullets:**

- Measure against the schedule as frozen, not the latest revision.
- Be consistent on units: pieces, standard hours or jobs.
- Record the reason for every miss, not only the count.

#### Definitions used

**Body:** Raw volume attainment is actual divided by planned units. Capped attainment limits the actual to the plan, so overproduction of one item does not hide a miss on another. On-time completion is jobs completed on or before their scheduled date divided by planned jobs. Missed jobs are planned jobs that are neither on time nor late-complete. Schedule stability is planned jobs divided by planned plus inserted jobs. Together they separate the volume problem from the discipline problem.

#### Reading the result

**Body:** In the sample, the plant made 1,082 of 1,200 planned units, so capped attainment is about 90 percent. Thirty-nine of 48 jobs finished on time, about 81 percent, and 3 were not completed. Five inserted jobs bring stability to about 91 percent. A plant can hit its volume target while many jobs run late, which is why both measures matter. Track the trend over several weeks, since a single week is noisy.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** A common mistake is to measure against a schedule that is revised daily, which always looks good but hides instability. Another is to treat low adherence as an operator problem when the plan itself is infeasible, with times that do not match reality. Look at causes first: material shortages, machine downtime, quality holds and late changes. Fixing the top cause usually moves the number more than pressure on the shop floor.

**Cta:** If you would like adherence tracked automatically from work order reporting in your ERP or MES, Netray can help set up a read-only view of planned versus actual.

**Faq:**

#### What is schedule adherence in manufacturing?

**Answer:** It is the degree to which production follows the schedule in sequence, timing and quantity. Plants measure it with attainment percentage, on-time job completion, and sometimes sequence compliance. A high value suggests a realistic plan and a stable shop floor.

#### Why cap attainment at 100 percent?

**Answer:** Without a cap, overproduction on one job can offset a shortfall on another, so the plant looks on plan while customers still wait. Capping gives credit only for work that was scheduled, which is closer to what customers experience.

#### What is a good schedule adherence target?

**Answer:** Many plants aim for at least 90 to 95 percent on a daily or weekly basis, but the right target depends on the process and the level of variability. Start by measuring the baseline for a month, then set a target that is a realistic step up.

#### How is this different from OEE?

**Answer:** OEE measures how well a machine uses scheduled time through availability, performance and quality. Schedule adherence measures whether the right things were made at the right time relative to the plan. A machine can have strong OEE while making the wrong jobs.
