#### Rough 1250 x 2500 mm sheets at 100 percent yield

**Key:** sheets_est

**Expr:** sum_area / 3.125

**Format:** decimal

**Description:** Area divided by one 1250 x 2500 mm sheet. Real nesting yield is lower, so add scrap.

**Notes:** Weight is blank length x width x thickness x density. Add a scrap or nesting allowance before ordering. Densities are nominal; check your mill cert for exact alloys.

## Content

**Intro:** A cut list turns a drawing set or a bill of materials into the blank sizes you need to cut. This worksheet adds blank area and weight per line so a buyer or estimator can size a sheet or plate order.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the worksheet

**Body:** Add a row for every cut part, with the flat blank length and width, thickness and quantity. Pick the material and set the density. Area and weight are calculated per line, and the totals update at the bottom. Replace the sample rows with your own, then export to Excel or CSV for the purchase order or the nesting software.

#### The formulas

**Body:** Weight in kilograms equals length in mm times width in mm times thickness in mm times density in g/cm3, times quantity, divided by one million. Area in square meters is length times width times quantity divided by one million. These give net blank weight, not purchase weight. The difference between the two is nesting scrap and cut kerf.

**Bullets:**

- Net weight = L x W x t x density x qty / 1,000,000
- Area (m2) = L x W x qty / 1,000,000
- Add 10 to 25 percent for typical nesting scrap, depending on part shape
- Offcuts may be reusable if tracked

#### From cut list to order

**Body:** Group lines by material and thickness, then convert area to sheet counts using your supplier's standard sheet sizes. Check for lead times on stainless and aluminum, which may be slower than mild steel. Compare your total weight with the supplier's price per kilogram or per sheet. For production runs, feed the same list into nesting software to get a real yield.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Entering finished dimensions rather than flat blank sizes understates material, since bent parts need a flat pattern. Another mistake is using the wrong density for an alloy. Also remember to add allowances for grain direction constraints and for film or protective coatings that affect sheet size choice.

**Cta:** If your BOM lives in an ERP, we can help pull cut lists directly from item and routing data so purchasing and planning stay in sync.

**Faq:**

#### Does this account for nesting scrap?

**Answer:** No. It gives net blank weight and area. Add a scrap allowance, often 10 to 25 percent depending on part shapes, or use nesting software for a real yield before buying material.

#### Which density should I use?

**Answer:** Mild steel is about 7.85 g/cm3, stainless 304 about 7.93, aluminum 5052 about 2.70 and copper about 8.96. Use the mill cert or supplier data for exact values on special alloys.

#### Can I use inches?

**Answer:** The worksheet is set up for millimeters. Convert inches by multiplying by 25.4, or enter converted values. Mixed units in one list will give wrong results.

#### How do I get a flat blank size?

**Answer:** Use the flat pattern from your CAD or offline software, or calculate it from the bend allowance method. Always use blank dimensions, not finished outside dimensions.
