#### Lines within tolerance

**Key:** accuracy

**Expr:** if(gt(count,0), (count - sum_recount) / count * 100, 0)

**Format:** percent

**Primary:** true

**Description:** Share of counted lines whose variance is 2 percent or less. Change the tolerance in the recount column formula if your policy differs.

**Notes:** Record counts as blind counts where possible. Post adjustments in SyteLine only after approval by someone who does not perform the count. Zero system quantity with stock found is treated as a 100 percent variance.

## Content

**Intro:** A cycle count is only useful if you can see which locations drift and what the drift costs. This worksheet turns count results into variance quantity, variance value and a simple accuracy figure, ready for approval before you post an adjustment.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the sheet

**Body:** Enter the item, location and lot, the system quantity from your count list, and the counted quantity. Add the unit cost so value is calculated. The sheet shows variance in units, in money and as a percentage, and flags lines above the 2 percent tolerance for recount. Export to Excel for approval, then post adjustments in SyteLine through your normal inventory adjustment process.

**Bullets:**

- Count blind, without showing system quantity.
- Recount flagged lines with a second person.
- Approve by value thresholds.
- Investigate causes for repeat offenders.

#### The formulas

**Body:** Variance quantity equals counted minus system. Variance value equals variance quantity times unit cost, so a loss shows as negative. Variance percent is the absolute difference divided by system quantity. The summary reports the percentage of lines within tolerance, which is a simple form of inventory record accuracy. Many plants target 95 to 99 percent for class A items, and looser tolerances for low value class C parts.

#### Using ABC classes

**Body:** Count class A items more often, perhaps monthly, class B quarterly and class C once or twice a year. Use tighter tolerances on A items. Sorting the exported sheet by ABC class and variance value shows whether your high value stock is controlled, and where to concentrate root cause work on picking, receiving and unit of measure errors.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Adjusting without finding the cause, counting while transactions are still in flight, confusing units of measure, and ignoring lot or location mismatches that net to zero at item level. Freeze movements for the counted locations or reconcile pending transactions before you accept a variance.

**Cta:** If you want recurring variance analysis straight from SyteLine inventory transactions, we can build a read-only report that highlights repeat locations and probable causes.

**Faq:**

#### What variance tolerance should I use?

**Answer:** Set it by value and class. Many sites use plus or minus 0 to 1 percent for high value A items and up to 5 percent for low value C items. The sheet uses 2 percent as a default you can change in the formula.

#### Should I post every variance?

**Answer:** Only after investigation and approval. Large variances should be recounted first, and adjustments above a value threshold should require a second approver such as the controller or materials manager.

#### How do I handle lot-controlled items?

**Answer:** Count by lot and location, and record each lot as its own line. Net item totals can hide offsetting errors in traceability, which matters for aerospace and regulated industries.

#### Does this replace the SyteLine cycle count function?

**Answer:** No. It supports planning, review and approval around the count. Use your normal SyteLine inventory and cycle count forms to generate lists and post the approved adjustments.
