## Content

**Intro:** A quote in the supplier's currency is never the cost to put the part on your dock. This calculator adds the ordinary duty, additional tariffs on top, customs user fees, freight and broker charges to get a defensible landed cost per shipment.

**Sections:**

#### How to use it

**Body:** Enter the customs value of the goods, the international freight, and the ordinary duty rate from the HTS line for your classification. Choose a combined additional tariff rate if your product and country of origin attract Section 232, Section 301 or other additional duties. Leave the customs fee defaults or update them for the current fiscal year. The chart sweeps the additional tariff from zero to 100 percent, which helps buyers see how a change in policy moves landed cost before they commit to a purchase order.

#### Method

**Body:** Duties are an ad valorem percentage of customs value, not of freight, for most US entries. The Merchandise Processing Fee is a percentage of value, bounded by a minimum and maximum per formal entry. The Harbor Maintenance Fee is charged on ocean cargo only. Landed cost is goods value plus freight plus duties plus fees plus broker and drayage charges.

**Bullets:**

- Duty = customs value x (normal rate + additional rate)
- MPF = clamp(value x rate, minimum, maximum)
- HMF = value x rate, ocean shipments only
- Landed = goods + freight + duty + fees + broker

#### Worked example and common mistakes

**Body:** On 250,000 of goods with 2.6 percent duty and 25 percent additional tariff, duty is 6,500 plus 62,500. MPF is 866, which is capped at 651.50, and HMF is 312.50. Fees and duties sum to 70,000, so with 12,000 freight and 1,800 broker charges the landed cost is about 333,800, an uplift near 33.5 percent. Mistakes include applying duty to freight-inclusive value, assuming tariff programs never stack, forgetting HMF on ocean cargo, and loading landed cost into inventory at the wrong time.

#### Landed cost in the ERP

**Body:** ERPs carry landed cost as cost elements on the receipt. Examples are SAP delivery costs in purchasing conditions, NetSuite landed cost categories, and Dynamics 365 charges. Keep duty rates in a table you can change when policy changes, so open purchase orders can be re-costed in bulk.

**Cta:** If you want open purchase orders re-costed automatically when a tariff rate changes, we can scope an ERP report or agent for it.

**Faq:**

#### Are Section 232 and 301 tariffs added to normal duty?

**Answer:** Generally yes. They are additional duties on top of the ordinary rate for covered products and origins, and they are assessed on customs value. Overlap rules and exclusions vary by action, so confirm on the HTS and in the broker's entry summary.

#### Why is the MPF capped?

**Answer:** For formal entries the Merchandise Processing Fee is a percentage of value subject to a statutory minimum and maximum per entry, adjusted each fiscal year. That is why large shipments pay a smaller effective percentage than small ones.

#### Does freight count in customs value?

**Answer:** For most US entries international freight and insurance are not dutiable, because the value is based on the price actually paid, usually without those charges. The tool treats freight as separate. Confirm with your broker if terms are unusual.

#### Can I use this for air freight?

**Answer:** Yes. Set the harbor maintenance fee to zero because it applies to ocean cargo only, and enter your air freight charge in the freight field. The MPF still applies to formal air entries.
