## Content

**Intro:** Before a quote or a cost review, many teams rebuild a bill of material in a spreadsheet. This worksheet does the arithmetic for you: quantity, scrap, unit cost and extended cost, with a running total you can export to Excel.

**Sections:**

#### How to use it

**Body:** Replace the sample rows with your components. Enter the part number, description, unit of measure, quantity per assembly, scrap percent and current unit cost, from a purchased price or a rolled-up subassembly cost. The extended cost computes for each row and the total updates at the bottom. Add rows for each level you cost, then export to Excel to share with purchasing or finance.

**Bullets:**

- Use the same unit of measure as the cost
- Cost subassemblies first and enter them as lines
- Add a line for packaging and consumables
- Keep a date for the cost source

#### The formula behind it

**Body:** Extended cost for a line is quantity per assembly times one plus scrap percent divided by 100, times unit cost. Total material cost is the sum of extended costs. This matches the usual material roll-up where a scrap or shrink factor inflates the required quantity. The summary shows the average line cost and the highest line, which highlights where purchasing effort pays off.

#### Reading the result

**Body:** Sort mentally by extended cost: in most assemblies a few lines make up the majority of material cost, so concentrate on those. If the total differs from your ERP's rolled cost, check unit of measure conversions, scrap factors, phantom assemblies and which cost field (standard, average, last) the system uses. A mismatch often traces to a stale price in one expensive line rather than a general error.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Typical errors are entering a purchase unit price per box while quantity per is in each, forgetting scrap on cut-to-length materials, and leaving out labor and overhead, which this worksheet does not include. Others use last price for some parts and standard for others, so the total mixes bases. Finally, remember effective dates: a cost taken from an outdated revision of the BOM can mislead the whole review.

**Cta:** If you want BOM cost roll-ups produced from live ERP structures at scale, we can build that analysis in your environment.

**Faq:**

#### Does this include labor and overhead?

**Answer:** No, only material lines. Use the part standard cost build-up calculator for labor, burden and outside processing, then add the result as a line for a subassembly.

#### How do I handle phantom assemblies?

**Answer:** Enter the phantom's components directly in the parent list, since phantoms are not stocked or costed separately. Keep a note that those lines come from a phantom.

#### What scrap percent should I use?

**Answer:** Use measured yield or purchase overage from history. Common examples are a few percent for machined parts and higher for cut wire, film or sheet nesting.

#### Can I export it?

**Answer:** Yes. Use the export controls to download Excel, PDF or CSV. The computed extended costs and totals are included.
