**Summary:**

#### Average days since last weld

**Key:** avg_idle

**Expr:** avg_days

**Format:** number

#### Longest idle period

**Key:** longest_idle

**Expr:** max_days

**Format:** number

**Description:** Many codes require requalification if a welder has not used the process for six months, about 180 days.

#### Welders on register

**Key:** n

**Expr:** count

**Format:** integer

**Notes:** Enter days since last weld by counting from the last production weld with that process. Most codes lapse a qualification if the process is unused for six months, though details differ between codes (for example ASME IX, AWS D1.1, ISO 9606). Check the code and your quality procedure.

## Content

**Intro:** Welders must be qualified for the process, position and material they weld, and their qualification can lapse if they stop using the process. This worksheet keeps the register in one editable table you can export to Excel.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the worksheet

**Body:** Add one row per welder and process qualification. Enter the WPS used for the test, the position and material range, the test date and the last production weld date. Update the days since last weld at every review. The summary shows the longest idle period so you can spot qualifications about to lapse.

**Bullets:**

- One row per process and qualification
- Update last weld date from production records
- Review monthly, not yearly
- Export a dated copy to the quality file

#### What the register supports

**Body:** Performance qualification standards such as ASME IX, AWS D1.1 and ISO 9606-1 define what a welder test qualifies: process, position, base metal group, thickness and filler. They also set continuity rules. A common rule is that the qualification stays valid while the welder uses the process at least every six months. ISO 9606 also uses periodic confirmation by the responsible person.

#### Using it with production planning

**Body:** Schedule work only to welders whose row covers the WPS, position and material. A supervisor can filter the exported sheet by process and position to pick the right person. If a row shows a long idle period, plan a test weld before assigning critical work.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Teams track the test date but not the last use date, so qualifications silently lapse. Other issues are assigning welders outside their qualified thickness or position, and keeping records in several places.

**Bullets:**

- No continuity tracking
- Thickness range ignored
- Expired card still in use
- Records kept per project instead of per welder

**Cta:** Netray can help tie welder qualifications to work orders and operations in your ERP so only qualified welders are assigned to controlled welds.

**Faq:**

#### How long is a welder qualification valid?

**Answer:** It depends on the code. Under ASME IX and AWS D1.1 style rules, it generally remains valid as long as the welder uses the process within six months. ISO 9606-1 uses a defined validity period with confirmation. Check your code.

#### What does a welder test qualify?

**Answer:** A test qualifies a range of process, welding position, base material group, thickness or diameter, and filler type. The ranges come from the code tables. The row you record should state what was tested so the range can be checked.

#### Do I need a new test if the welder changes company?

**Answer:** Under many codes the qualification belongs to the employer who tested the welder, so a new employer normally tests again or accepts the record under specific rules. Check your code and contract requirements.

#### Can I filter and sort the sheet?

**Answer:** Export to Excel or CSV and use filters there. Sort by days since last weld to see which qualifications are closest to lapsing, and filter by process or position when assigning work.
