#### Approval

**Signatures:**

- Prepared by (welding engineer)

**Notes:** Starting point only. A WPS must follow the governing code, and its ranges must be supported by a qualified PQR. Variables such as essential, supplementary essential and nonessential differ by code. Verify against the current edition before use.

## Content

**Intro:** A welding procedure specification tells the welder exactly how to make a qualified weld. This template captures the standard fields in a clean document you can export to PDF or Word and adapt to your code.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the template

**Body:** Fill in the process, joint design, base metal, filler, position, preheat and electrical ranges. Reference the supporting procedure qualification record. The parameter table lets the welder record actual values per pass. Export to PDF for sign-off or to Word if your quality system needs custom layout.

**Bullets:**

- Give ranges, not single values, where the code allows
- Reference the PQR that supports each range
- Add revision control for every change
- Attach joint sketches

#### What a WPS must contain

**Body:** Codes such as ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1 and ISO 15609 require variables like process, base metal group, thickness and diameter range, filler classification, position, preheat and interpass limits, PWHT, shielding gas, current type and polarity, and technique. Essential variables need requalification if changed. This template follows that structure without copying any code text.

#### WPS, PQR and welder qualification

**Body:** The PQR records what was actually welded and tested to prove the procedure. The WPS is the instruction derived from it. The welder performance qualification proves each welder can follow it. Keep all three linked by number so an auditor can trace a production weld back to a test.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** WPS documents fail audits when ranges exceed what the PQR supports, the revision is missing, the filler classification is vague, or the position is not specified. Another frequent error is copying a WPS between codes without checking variable differences.

**Bullets:**

- Ranges wider than the PQR supports
- No signature or date
- Missing interpass maximum
- Mixed codes on one form

**Cta:** If you manage WPS, PQR and welder records across plants, Netray can help link them to work orders and traveler data in your ERP.

**Faq:**

#### Is this template compliant with ASME IX or AWS D1.1?

**Answer:** It follows the common field structure but is not a code form. Compliance depends on your values, supporting PQR and the current code edition. Use it as a starting document and check each variable against the code you work to.

#### What is the difference between a WPS and a PQR?

**Answer:** The PQR is a record of a test weld and its mechanical test results. The WPS is the written instruction, with ranges, that a qualified PQR supports. One PQR can support several WPS documents within the allowed variable ranges.

#### Who signs a WPS?

**Answer:** Usually the welding engineer or coordinator prepares it and a responsible person approves it. The code may require that the manufacturer certify the PQR. Third party inspectors or authorized inspectors may review it for pressure or structural work.

#### Can I export it to Word?

**Answer:** Yes. The tool exports to PDF, Word, Excel and CSV. Use Word if you want to add sketches, company headers or numbering that fit your quality management system.
