Africa ERP Implementation Readiness Assessment

Many ERP projects in African manufacturing struggle because of power, connectivity, data and people, not because of the software. This assessment scores those foundations before you sign.

0 of 10 answered0%

1. How clean is your item, customer and supplier master data?

2. How reliable is power at your main site?

Consider servers, network gear and shop floor terminals.

3. How good is connectivity between sites and to the cloud?

4. Do you know your tax and e-invoicing obligations in each country?

5. Is there an executive sponsor with time for the project?

6. Do you have key users who can be released from daily work?

7. How well documented are your current processes?

8. How many currencies and entities will the system need to handle?

9. Is local implementation and support capacity available for your chosen product?

10. Have you agreed how data will be migrated and validated?

How to use the assessment

Answer each question honestly with the option closest to today's reality, not the plan. The tool totals your points, converts them to a percentage and shows a band with next steps. Share the results with your leadership team and use the lowest-scoring areas as the first workstreams in your project plan.

What the questions test

The ten questions cover the factors that most often decide whether a project succeeds: data quality, infrastructure, tax compliance, sponsorship, key user availability, process documentation, multi-currency handling, partner support and data migration. Each is scored from zero to three.

  • Data and process maturity
  • Power and connectivity
  • Tax and e-invoicing
  • People and sponsorship
  • Partner and migration planning

Reading the bands

A low score does not mean you should avoid an ERP, only that some groundwork should come first. A middle score usually means you can begin vendor selection while fixing data and process gaps. A high score means you can focus on scope control and training.

Common mistakes

Teams often score themselves on intentions, ignore infrastructure, or let the vendor do the migration without business sign-off. Revisit the assessment after each major milestone to see whether risks are shrinking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this specific to one ERP product?

No. The questions apply to any ERP, whether SYSPRO, Sage, Odoo, SAP or another product. They test your organisation's readiness rather than the software, so use them at the start of selection or before a major upgrade.

What score should I aim for?

Aim for at least the mostly ready band before go-live planning is locked. You can start selection at a lower score, but treat each low-scoring answer as a risk on the project register with an owner and date.

Who should answer the questions?

Have the finance, operations and IT leads answer separately, then compare. Differences in answers often show where people are unaware of risks, which is useful in itself before the project starts.

Can small businesses use it?

Yes. Small manufacturers often score well on simplicity but poorly on documentation and key user time. The same questions apply, but scope and migration will be smaller.

If your score points to data and process gaps, Netray can help profile your existing data and plan a private, read-only AI layer around the new ERP.
