Sign-off
Replace the steps and equipment with your own routing. Cure profiles and polish recipes belong in controlled work instructions, not on a free-form traveler. Starting point only.
Generate travelers from your ERP
Optional review of how work orders and lot data could fill a traveler automatically.
Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.
How to use the traveler
Fill the header with the work order, part number, revision and customer order. List the cable, connector and adhesive lots so the build is traceable to material. Export the document and print one per lot or per day's batch. Operators sign each operation, and the quality release only follows once end face inspection and final test are complete.
- One traveler per work order or per sub-lot
- Always record adhesive lot and expiry
- Attach test results and inspection log references
Process steps for connectorized assemblies
A typical epoxy and polish line prepares the cable, loads connectors with adhesive, cures them, then cleaves and polishes the ferrule. Pre-radiused pigtails and mechanical splice connectors skip some of these steps. Adapt the step list to your process and add hold points where your customer or standard requires verification. End face inspection and insertion and return loss test are the quality gates before pack.
Traceability and records
Material lot, operator, equipment and date are the minimum for backward traceability. If you run an ERP, the work order number links the traveler to issued material, labor and inventory receipts. Keep completed travelers with the test report for the retention period in your quality system or contract, and note the polishing film and fixture life where it affects quality.
Common mistakes
Common faults are using expired adhesive, not recording oven load times, skipping end face inspection on a rework unit, and releasing a lot with open nonconformances. Do not pre-sign steps. Each sign-off must be made when the operation is complete, and corrections should be single-line strike-throughs with initials and date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a router or a traveler?
The router is the engineering definition of operations in your ERP. The traveler is the paper or PDF that goes with a specific lot and gets signed. This template is a traveler you can align with your routing.
How should I handle rework?
Log rework steps as additional rows or on a rework traveler linked to the original work order. Record the reason, the operation repeated and the retest result, then reference the nonconformance report if one is raised.
Do I need adhesive cure data on the traveler?
Yes if adhesive cure is a controlled process. Record oven ID, profile and load and unload times, or reference the oven's own log. Under-cured adhesive can cause fiber pistoning or ferrule movement later.
Can I use this for field termination?
Adapt it. Replace the oven and polish steps with the field connector process, record the connector lot, and keep the test and inspection sign-offs.
If you want travelers generated from ERP work orders with lot data filled in automatically, we can help design that flow.
