Supplier Delivery Performance Calculator (OTD and OTIF)
On-time delivery is the number every buyer is asked for, and every company seems to calculate it differently. This calculator uses the line-level method, shows OTD alongside the stricter OTIF, and tells you how many lines need to be recovered to reach your target.
Your numbers
Count the lines whose due date fell inside the period.
Received inside your accepted window, regardless of quantity.
Received earlier than your allowed early window.
Received after the allowed window or still open past due.
Must be on time and within quantity tolerance. Cannot exceed lines on time.
Your results
Check that lines on time, early and late reconcile to lines due in your data. Definitions of the accepted window and in-full tolerance should match your supplier agreement.
OTD vs lines received on time
Sweeps Lines received on time from 100 to 200, holding your other inputs fixed.

Optional: we can show how supplier delivery metrics can be generated directly from purchase order and receipt data.

How to use the calculator
Pull a report of purchase order lines whose due date fell in the period, for example the month or quarter. Count lines received inside the window, early, late and those that were also complete. Enter them, set your target and read OTD, OTIF and the gap. The example shows 172 of 200 lines on time, which gives 86 percent OTD and an OTIF of 79 percent, against a 95 percent target.
The formulas
OTD equals lines received on time divided by lines due, times 100. OTIF equals lines that were both on time and within quantity tolerance divided by lines due. Lines to recover equal target percent times lines due minus the lines already on time, rounded up. Weighting by value or quantity is possible, but line counts are the most common and the easiest to audit.
- Define the window, for example 3 days early to 0 days late
- Define in-full tolerance, for example plus or minus 5 percent
- Use due date or confirmed date, but state which one
- Count a partial delivery as not in full
Reading the result and common mistakes
A supplier can have high OTD and low OTIF if it ships on time but short. Early deliveries are a problem too: they inflate inventory and may break your receiving rules, so track them separately. The biggest mistake is measuring against the supplier's confirmed date after it slipped, which hides the real lateness against the original need date. Also avoid mixing urgent expedited lines with normal lines without a note.
Where the data lives in your ERP
Receipt dates and due dates come from purchase order schedule lines and goods receipts, for example the schedule line and goods receipt history in SAP, receipts in Oracle, and PO release and receiving in SyteLine, Epicor and Dynamics. Agree one standard report so buyers and suppliers see the same numbers, and feed it into your supplier scorecard.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good supplier on-time delivery rate?
Many manufacturers target 95 percent or higher, with critical suppliers closer to 98 percent. The right target depends on lead times, buffers and how costly a late line is, so set it with your suppliers and measure consistently.
What is the difference between OTD and OTIF?
OTD measures only timing. OTIF requires the delivery to be on time and complete, within the quantity tolerance. OTIF is always equal to or lower than OTD, and highlights suppliers that ship on time but short.
Should I measure by lines, orders or value?
Lines are most common and easy to verify. Order level is stricter because one late line fails the order. Value weighting emphasizes big items. Whichever you pick, keep it consistent and document it in your supplier agreement.
How do I treat early deliveries?
Define an accepted window, such as no more than a few days early. Deliveries outside it count as not on time or are tracked separately, because early shipments tie up cash and storage and can disrupt receiving.
If you want OTD and OTIF calculated automatically per supplier from your ERP receipts, Netray can build it on your data, with on-prem options.
