CIP Cleaning Verification Record Template
Clean-in-place records prove that a circuit was washed to the validated recipe and verified before production restarted. This template captures the cycle, rinse checks and sign-offs in one document.

Verification
Final rinse: Conductivity 180 uS/cm, pH 7.1 ATP swab: 42 RLU, limit 150 Result: Pass
Comments: No deviations. Gaskets inspected at tank outlet.
Sign-off
Starting point, not a validated procedure. Concentrations, temperatures, times and acceptance limits must come from your validated sanitation SOP and chemical supplier, and the record should be reviewed before the line restarts.
Gate line restarts on CIP status
An optional review of linking sanitation verification to production order release in your ERP.
Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.
How to use it
Fill in the circuit, last product and the actual caustic and acid parameters from the CIP skid. Add the final rinse reading and the ATP or visual verification result, choose pass or fail and note any deviation. Export to PDF or Word and file with the production record. Many plants print one per circuit per cycle, then attach the controller chart for continuous parameters.
- Record actual values, not targets
- Capture flow or velocity if your SOP requires it
- Attach the CIP controller print where available
Typical parameters
Common CIP recipes combine a pre-rinse, a hot alkaline wash, an intermediate rinse, an optional acid wash and a final rinse. Caustic is often around 1 to 2 percent at 70 to 80 C and acid around 0.5 to 1 percent, with turbulent flow near 1.5 m per second in pipework. Values depend on soil, equipment and chemical supplier, so treat them as examples only and use your validated figures.
Verification and mistakes
ATP swabs give a fast hygiene indicator but do not replace micro testing, and limits depend on the meter and product. Frequent mistakes include missing concentration checks after chemical top-ups, ignoring dead legs and gaskets, restarting production before final rinse conductivity returns to baseline, and not recording who verified. Failed verification should trigger a repeat cycle and, if repeated, an investigation.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does CIP stand for?
CIP means clean in place, a method of cleaning pipes, tanks and equipment without dismantling by circulating cleaning solutions at controlled concentration, temperature, time and flow.
What is the TACT principle?
TACT stands for time, action (flow), chemical concentration and temperature. Cleaning effectiveness depends on all four, and a shortfall in one can be compensated partly by the others.
Is an ATP swab enough to verify cleaning?
ATP is a rapid indicator of organic residue. Many plants combine it with visual inspection, rinse water checks and periodic microbiological swabs.
How long should CIP records be kept?
Retention follows your regulations and customer schemes. In the US, food records under FSMA rules must generally be kept at least two years. Check your own requirements.
Netray can help connect sanitation records with production orders in your ERP so a line cannot restart without a passed CIP record.
