Free tool for Epicor Kinetic (formerly Epicor ERP 10)
Epicor Kinetic Integration and EDI Designer
Pick the business objects and the systems you need to connect, and get an Epicor Kinetic integration inventory that names the real interface for each flow: REST API v2 business object services such as Erp.BO.SalesOrderSvc and Erp.BO.CustShipSvc, BAQs read through BaqSvc, Epicor Functions, or Epicor EDI with Demand Management. Switch to EDI mode to see how X12 850, 830, 856 and 810 (and the EDIFACT equivalents) map to Demand Entry, OrderHed, ShipHead and InvcHead.

Integration inventory
Kinetic exposes every business object, process, report, BAQ and Epicor Function through the Open REST API (OData v4), so most integrations read with BAQs and write through BO services or Functions. Epicor sells two iPaaS options, Epicor Automation Studio (powered by Workato) and Epicor Integration Cloud (powered by Jitterbit), and Epicor EDI for trading partners; Kinetic is moving from semi-annual releases toward a monthly CI/CD cadence starting with the May 2026 release (2026.100), so plan regression tests for every interface.
Your inventory appears here
Exports include the inventory, rationale, field maps with your target names, selected EDI maps and risks. No sign-in needed.
How to use it
- 1
Pick the objects
Select the business objects in scope, such as customers, parts, sales orders and shipments.
- 2
Add the target systems
For each object choose the system on the other side, the direction seen from Kinetic and how often it must move.
- 3
Read the inventory
Each row names the Kinetic interface (BO service, BAQ, Epicor Function or EDI document), why it fits and what to watch for.
- 4
Check the field map
Open the starter map for an object, fill in the target field names and note the keys and required fields.
- 5
Export or save
Download the design as PDF, Excel, Word or CSV, save it to your account, or send it to an engineer for review.
Kinetic interfaces in this tool
- REST API v2 (OData v4 BO services) synchronous
- Business object services under /api/v2/odata/{Company}/, for example Erp.BO.SalesOrderSvc/SalesOrders, Erp.BO.CustomerSvc/Customers and Erp.BO.PartSvc/Parts, plus custom methods such as GetNewOrderHed and MasterUpdate. Each call needs an API key (x-api-key header) and a user (Basic auth or a bearer token from TokenResource.svc); BPM and security rules run on every call.
- REST API v1 (legacy paths) synchronous
- The earlier REST surface at /api/v1/Erp.BO.{Service}/{EntitySet}, without the company segment in the path. Still found in existing integrations; new builds normally use v2 with API keys and access scopes.
- BAQs through BaqSvc synchronous
- A Business Activity Query is a governed SQL view built in the BAQ Designer and read at /api/v2/odata/{Company}/BaqSvc/{BAQID}/Data with OData $filter, $select and $top. Use it for outbound reads and change polling; an updatable BAQ (uBAQ) can also write through its update processing.
- Epicor Functions over REST synchronous
- Server-side C# or widget logic in a function library, published and called at /api/v2/efx/{Company}/{Library}/{Function} (unpromoted libraries run under /api/v2/efx/staging/; verify the path for your release). Wrap multi-step BO calls (order, lines, releases) in one function so the caller sends one request.
- BPM directives (outbound triggers) asynchronous
- Method and data directives run when a BO method executes or a table row changes. Call an Epicor Function or post to a queue from a directive to push a change out; keep external HTTP calls short or outside the transaction so a slow target does not block the user.
- Epicor EDI with Demand Management asynchronous
- Inbound partner documents are translated by Epicor EDI (formerly 1 EDI Source; HQXchange, ManagedXchange or AtlasExchange) or another translator, imported into the DemandHeadImport, DemandDetailImport and DemandScheduleImport staging tables, and processed through Demand Entry, Demand Workbench and Demand Mass Review into sales orders. Outbound documents are produced from shipments, invoices and orders flagged for EDI.
- Data Management Tool (DMT) asynchronous
- Epicor's bulk load tool: CSV or Excel templates (for example Sales > Price List > Price List Part) are loaded through the same business objects with Add and Update options. Suits migrations and scheduled bulk updates, not transactional interfaces.
- Epicor Automation Studio or Integration Cloud asynchronous
- Epicor Automation Studio (Workato) runs recipes against Kinetic REST and BAQs and connects to 1,000+ external apps; Epicor Integration Cloud (Jitterbit) targets orchestration with CRM, ecommerce and HR systems and ITAR-sensitive deployments. Any third-party iPaaS that speaks REST and OData can use the same APIs.
- Read-only SQL (on-premises) asynchronous
- On-premises only: read the Erp and Ice schemas or a replica for reporting extracts. Never write to tables; direct updates bypass BO validation, BPM and the change log. Epicor cloud tenants generally have no direct SQL access; use BAQs or Epicor Data Analytics (verify for your hosting arrangement).
Questions
What is the difference between Epicor REST v1 and v2?
v2 puts the company in the path (/api/v2/odata/{Company}/Erp.BO.SalesOrderSvc/SalesOrders) and requires an API key on every request, sent as the x-api-key header, alongside the user credentials or token. Access scopes on the key limit which services an integration can call. v1 paths (/api/v1/Erp.BO.{Service}/...) still work in many installs but new integrations should use v2.
Should I read Kinetic data with a BAQ or with the business object service?
Use a BAQ through BaqSvc for outbound reads: it returns only the columns and rows you define, joins tables such as OrderHed, OrderDtl and OrderRel in one call, and supports OData $filter and $top. Use BO services when you need the full dataset of one record or when you write, because writes must go through the BO so validation and BPM run.
How do I create a sales order in Epicor Kinetic through the API?
Either call Erp.BO.SalesOrderSvc in sequence (create the header with OrderNum 0, add OrderDtls, then OrderRels against an existing line, or use GetNewOrderHed and MasterUpdate), or write an Epicor Function that receives the whole order and makes those calls server side. The Function route means one request per order, one place for logging, and business logic stays in Kinetic.
How does EDI work in Epicor Kinetic?
Kinetic does not translate X12 or EDIFACT. Epicor EDI (formerly 1 EDI Source) or another translator converts partner files and loads them into the Demand Management import tables. Demand Entry and Demand Workbench validate the demand against demand contracts, ship-tos and customer part cross references, Demand Mass Review handles schedule changes, and processed demand creates or updates sales orders. Outbound ASNs and invoices are built from packing slips and posted invoices.
Why does my EDI order stop in Demand Entry without creating a sales order?
Common causes are an invalid ship-to (header lock), a part without a customer cross reference (shown as NOT_FOUND), or a unit of measure that does not convert. Line errors may only appear in the import log, not in Demand Workbench. Fix the cross reference or UOM, clear the stuck demand and reimport the file.
What are Epicor Automation Studio and Epicor Integration Cloud?
Both are iPaaS products sold by Epicor. Automation Studio is powered by Workato and is aimed at workflow automation and connecting Kinetic to more than 1,000 external apps. Integration Cloud is powered by Jitterbit and is positioned for connecting Kinetic or Epicor Financials to on-premises and cloud systems, including deployments with ITAR requirements. Both call the same REST APIs and BAQs a custom integration would.
Can I write directly to the Epicor SQL database for an integration?
No. Writing to Erp tables bypasses business object validation, BPM directives and the change log, and Epicor cloud tenants generally have no direct SQL access (verify for your hosting arrangement). Use REST BO services, Epicor Functions, DMT or the EDI path for writes, and keep SQL to read-only reporting on premises.
How does the Kinetic release cadence affect integrations?
Starting with release 2026.100 in May 2026, Kinetic is moving away from a semi-annual model toward a monthly CI/CD cadence, and Epicor says cloud customers in particular will get improvements sooner. Integrations built on documented REST services, BAQs and Functions are the least exposed, but every interface should have a regression test you can rerun after each update.
