Vendors change editions, names and hosting options. Treat this list as a starting shortlist and confirm current offerings, pricing and supported versions directly with each vendor.

Shortlist review

Send us your shortlist and requirements and we will give you an honest outside view of fit and risk.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use this list

Search by product, vendor or segment, then export the rows you want to compare. Start with systems built for job shops (make-to-order, routings per job, quote to cash) before looking at general SMB ERPs. Use the last column as your demo prompt: every vendor will show a polished happy path, so ask them to run your own part, your own routing and your own outside process through it.

  • Pick three to five systems, not ten
  • Bring one real quote, one real job and one late job to every demo
  • Ask for a reference shop with a similar headcount and machine mix

Job shop ERP versus general ERP

Job shop systems assume every job has its own routing, quote history and customer drawing revision. General ERPs assume repeat items with stable routings. Both can work, but the general ERPs often need partner add-ons for shop floor data collection and finite scheduling, which changes both cost and risk. Count add-ons when you compare prices.

Common selection mistakes

Buying on feature count instead of fit is the most common error. Others include skipping a data migration trial, ignoring how the system links to your accounting package, and underestimating the time your best planner must spend during implementation.

  • No trial import of real parts, routings and open jobs
  • Treating the license price as the project price
  • No named internal owner for the project

Frequently Asked Questions

Which ERP is best for a small machine shop?

There is no single best system. Fit depends on headcount, quoting complexity, quality requirements and whether you need on-premise hosting. Shortlist job-shop-specific systems first and test each with your own jobs before deciding.

Are JobBOSS and E2 the same product?

They are separate products from the same vendor, ECI Software Solutions, with different architectures and histories. Ask the vendor which one fits your size and which has the stronger current roadmap.

Do I need ERP or can MES be enough?

Very small shops sometimes run quoting, scheduling and shop floor tracking in one lighter tool. Once you need purchasing, inventory costing, accounting integration and quality records tied together, a real ERP is usually worth it.

How long does a job shop ERP implementation take?

Small shops typically need several months from kickoff to go-live, with data cleanup and training taking more calendar time than software setup. Vendors with fixed templates can be faster, but your data readiness sets the pace.

If you already run one of these systems and want to ask questions of your own job, routing and cost data in plain language, Netray can review your setup and show what is possible without replacing the ERP.
