Sage Intacct Month-End Close Time Savings Calculator

Controllers are asked to justify finance-system automation in hours, not features. This calculator multiplies effort per entity and the consolidation load by twelve closes, applies your expected reduction and converts the result into cost and full-time equivalents.

Savings rely on realistic reduction rates. Freed hours only become cash if the capacity is redeployed or avoided hiring.

How to use it

Count entities you close each month and time a typical close for one of them, including reconciliations and reporting. Add intercompany and consolidation effort separately because multi-entity tools usually shorten that part most. Choose a conservative reduction rate and a loaded hourly cost. The chart shows how value scales with the reduction rate so you can present a range, not a single promise.

Where the reduction comes from

Typical sources are recurring journals, automated allocations, bank feed matching, intercompany eliminations and dimension-based reporting that removes spreadsheet rebuilds. The reduction depends on how manual you are today. A shop already using automated allocations will see less benefit than one rebuilding consolidations in Excel each month.

  • Time one real close before estimating.
  • Separate one-off clean-up from recurring effort.
  • Check that the hours are in your close checklist.

Common mistakes

Do not claim the full FTE value if nobody will be reassigned or hiring avoided. Do not use best-case reduction from a vendor slide. Also remember implementation effort and the learning curve in the first quarters; subtract them in your business case, for example with the TCO calculator on this site.

Frequently Asked Questions

What reduction rate is realistic?

It depends on the starting point. A manual, spreadsheet-driven close may save a third or more; one that is already automated will save much less. Use a conservative figure and show a range.

Does this work for other ERPs?

Yes. The arithmetic is generic. Replace the close hours and reduction with your own for Sage 300, Acumatica or any finance system.

What is an FTE?

Full-time equivalent: saved hours divided by the productive hours of one person in a year. It translates the hours into headcount capacity, not necessarily a reduction in staff.

Should consolidation be separate?

Yes. Multi-entity and intercompany work scales differently from per-entity reconciliations, and automation usually changes it by a different factor.
