SAP Firefighter ID Usage Review Log
Auditors ask the same question about emergency access: was every session justified, time-boxed and reviewed by someone independent. This log gives you a simple structure to record each session and the reviewer's decision, with totals you can trend.

Fill one row per session. A row without a ticket reference or reviewer is a finding to follow up. Match each row against the firefighter log your emergency access tool reports (for example the SAP GRC Emergency Access Management log reports) before sign-off.
Automate privileged access review packs
Discuss pulling session logs and tickets into one read-only review pack. Optional.
Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.
How to use the worksheet
Add one row for each firefighter session from the log report of your emergency access tool. Capture the firefighter ID, the person who used it, the incident or change ticket that justified it, the system and date, and how long it ran. Then record the reviewer and their decision. Duration in hours is computed automatically, and the summary shows the average and longest session. Export to Excel or PDF to attach as audit evidence.
- Every session needs a ticket reference
- The reviewer must not be the person who used the ID
- Review within a fixed number of days after the session
- Investigate sessions that run far longer than the average
What reviewers look for
A good review compares what was executed against what the ticket justified. Reviewers check that transactions match the stated reason, that changes in production were also covered by a change record, and that no sensitive data was exported without need. Long sessions, repeated use of the same ID for the same problem and sessions outside normal hours deserve a closer look and may point to a missing permanent fix or a role gap.
Reading the totals
Total minutes and transactions give a trend figure by month or quarter. A rising total suggests recurring issues or roles that are too narrow for daily work. The longest session metric highlights outliers, and the share of rows with a result other than Approved indicates how often follow up was needed. Keep the same period definition across reports so quarter to quarter comparisons are fair.
Common mistakes
Reviews done by the same team that used the ID, rubber-stamped approvals without opening the transaction log, and tickets raised after the fact are the typical findings. Another is leaving IDs permanently assigned to named users instead of assigning them on request for a limited time. This worksheet is a record keeper; the control itself lives in your process and your emergency access tooling.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this tied to SAP GRC?
No, it is tool-neutral. It works for SAP GRC Emergency Access Management or any other process where privileged access is granted temporarily. Copy the session details from your tool's log report.
How often should reviews happen?
Many organisations review within a few days of each session and report monthly. Follow your own policy and your auditor's expectations, and document the review date alongside the result.
Who should be the reviewer?
Someone independent of the user, typically a system owner, manager or security lead, with enough knowledge to judge whether the actions matched the ticket. It should not be the person who used the firefighter ID.
Can I add columns?
Export to Excel and add columns such as approver notes or risk rating. Keep the core fields of who, why, when, how long and who reviewed, because those are what auditors usually sample.
Netray can help automate collection of session logs and ticket references into a private review pack, read-only and on your own infrastructure.
