Infor VISUAL Price Book: How Customer Pricing and Price Breaks Are Set Up

Question
infor visual price book

Also searched as

  • infor visual customer pricing
  • infor visual price breaks
  • infor visual selling price part

Short answer

In Infor VISUAL, a selling price reaches an order line from a hierarchy of sources: the part's list price and quantity breaks, any customer-specific pricing, and manual override on the line. A price book approach means maintaining those sources deliberately and in one place, then testing the result on order entry. Exact window names depend on your version.

Applies to: Infor VISUAL Enterprise (VMFG) 8.x and later. Menu names and pricing options differ by version and by modules installed; confirm in your own application.

Set up and verify pricing in VISUAL

  1. 1Inventory your pricing models: one list price, quantity breaks, customer-specific prices, contract prices, currency-specific prices.
  2. 2Load list prices and quantity price breaks on the part records in Part Maintenance, using a controlled import if there are many parts.
  3. 3Set customer-specific pricing or discounts in Customer Maintenance where the customer has an agreement.
  4. 4Decide what happens on currency: either price per currency or convert from a base price at the exchange rate.
  5. 5Create a test customer order for each model and check the line price, the break applied and the extended amount.
  6. 6Document the precedence you observed: which source wins when several apply.
  7. 7Assign ownership: one person maintains prices, with an effective-date and approval routine for changes.

Price sources and precedence

The first question on any wrong price is which source supplied it. A price book is only reliable if you know the order of precedence. Typically the line starts from the part's selling price or a quantity break, customer-specific terms can replace or adjust it, and a user can override the line manually if security allows.

Test precedence on your own database rather than assuming. Use a part with a quantity break and a customer with a specific price, and enter the order both ways.

Maintaining prices at scale

Editing hundreds of prices one part at a time does not scale. Use the supported import and mass update tools, or extract with the query tool, change in Excel and reload through a supported path. Write directly into tables only if your partner has validated it, because VISUAL calculates and stores related values.

Annual price increases are a project: freeze, load, test on a copy, release on an effective date, and keep the old file to explain disputes.

Auditing why an order has a price

When a customer disputes a price, compare the order line with the part price, the break table, the customer terms and any manual override recorded. Keeping a before and after export of prices at each change gives you the evidence. See the related page on the VISUAL query tool for extracting these lists.

Common pitfalls

  • !Mixing list prices and customer-specific prices with no documented precedence.
  • !Price changes without effective dates, so open quotes silently reprice.
  • !Forgetting currency and unit-of-measure effects on quantity breaks.
  • !Mass table updates that skip VISUAL's own validation.

How an ERP-grounded AI assistant handles this

Price disputes are an investigation problem. A grounded assistant such as ERPray can answer why customer X was quoted this price on order line Y by reading the part, break and customer records and showing the query, or list customers whose price is below the current list. It reads only, so it explains pricing without changing it. On-prem deployment keeps price data on your own servers.

Frequently asked questions

Does Infor VISUAL have a price book?

VISUAL supports pricing through part selling prices, quantity price breaks and customer-specific pricing rather than one object everyone calls a price book. Treat those sources together as your price book and check the exact windows in your version.

How do I set customer-specific prices in VISUAL?

Use the customer pricing options in Customer Maintenance or the pricing facility available in your version, then verify on a test order. Confirm precedence against part prices.

How do I update many prices at once?

Use a supported import or mass update path, or extract to Excel, revise and reload, testing on a copy first. Avoid direct table edits unless a partner has validated them.

Why did an order pick the wrong price?

Check which source supplied it: part price, quantity break, customer terms or manual override. Differences in currency, unit of measure and effective date are common causes.

Infor VISUAL REST API: what exists, the API Toolkit and how to wrap it

Classic Infor VISUAL integrates through the VISUAL API Toolkit (COM objects that apply business logic), direct SQL access for reads, and flat-file or EDI imports. A native REST API is not the traditional route. Most teams expose REST themselves by wrapping the Toolkit or SQL reads in a small service, or use Infor ION where their version and licence support it.

Price Book Session in Infor LN: Setup and Order Pricing

In Infor LN, a price book holds the selling prices for items, and LN selects the price for a sales order line by looking up the applicable price book through its pricing setup. If a sales line shows no price or the wrong one, check price book validity dates, the item and unit, the customer's assigned price structure and currency. Session names vary by version, so search the session list for price book.

JD Edwards Advanced Pricing: Adjustment Types, Schedules and Definitions Explained

JD Edwards Advanced Pricing computes a sales price by walking a price adjustment schedule: an ordered list of adjustment names, each tied to an adjustment type that defines how the price is found (basis, level, preference hierarchy) and a definition that supplies the actual discounts or prices. Customers and items are linked to the schedule through price groups.

Error fix

Infor VISUAL error 19005: causes and step-by-step fix

Error 19005 is not a code we can tie to a single documented meaning, and published answers vary. In practice, numbered errors in VISUAL usually come from the database layer: a lost or failing SQL Server connection, an ODBC or client mismatch, or a permissions problem. The reliable way to fix it is to capture the full message text, test the connection outside VISUAL, and check the SQL Server error log.
