Price Book Session in Infor LN: Setup and Order Pricing

Question
price book session infor ln

Also searched as

  • infor ln price book
  • infor ln sales price book setup
  • infor ln price list vs price book
  • infor ln sales order price not found

Short answer

In Infor LN, a price book holds the selling prices for items, and LN selects the price for a sales order line by looking up the applicable price book through its pricing setup. If a sales line shows no price or the wrong one, check price book validity dates, the item and unit, the customer's assigned price structure and currency. Session names vary by version, so search the session list for price book.

Applies to: Infor LN 10.x Sales Control. Terms such as price book, price list and price structure differ in detail between versions; confirm against your documentation.

Set up a price book and make orders use it

  1. 1Decide the pricing model: one price book per customer group, per currency or per sales channel.
  2. 2Create the price book with a clear code, currency and validity dates.
  3. 3Add price lines per item, unit and quantity break, and set the price unit carefully.
  4. 4Link the price book into the pricing structure so it is found for the right customers or order types.
  5. 5Assign the customer's pricing data so the book is selected when an order is entered for them.
  6. 6Create a test sales order and confirm the price retrieved, its source and any discount applied.
  7. 7Review the pricing for expired or overlapping periods and agree a process for yearly price updates.

How LN finds a price

When a sales order line is entered, LN searches the pricing setup in a defined sequence, trying the most specific source first and falling back to more general ones. A price book is one source in that sequence. If a more specific match exists, such as a customer-item price, it may win over your book.

That is why 'the price book says X but the order says Y' is common. The order is simply using a different source that ranked higher. The order line or its pricing details should show which source supplied the price.

Why a price is not found

The usual causes are an item missing from the book, a unit or currency mismatch, validity dates that do not cover the order date, a quantity break that excludes the ordered quantity, or a customer without the pricing link that points to the book.

Check them in that order, starting with the date, because annual price changes leave gaps between periods more often than anything else.

Maintaining prices at scale

Update prices by loading new validity periods rather than editing old lines, so history is preserved and old orders stay explainable. For large changes, use a staged load with a review step, and test the result on a sample of customers.

Document which price source wins in each scenario. New staff and auditors both benefit from a one-page precedence note.

Price-not-found checklist
1. Order date within validity?
2. Item present in the price book?
3. Unit and price unit match?
4. Currency matches the order?
5. Quantity falls in a price break?
6. Customer pricing data points to the book?

Common pitfalls

  • !Editing existing price lines instead of adding a new validity period, losing price history.
  • !Gaps between validity periods that leave orders without a price on the changeover day.
  • !Mixing currencies in a book meant for one currency.
  • !Not documenting which source wins, so people argue about the 'right' price.
  • !Loading price changes straight to production without a sample test.

How an ERP-grounded AI assistant handles this

Price disputes need the answer to 'where did this price come from'. A private assistant over your LN sales data can trace an order line to its price source and flag expired or overlapping price periods, read-only and on your own servers. Price changes still go through your pricing owner and a controlled load.

Frequently asked questions

What is a price book in Infor LN?

It is a master record holding selling prices for items, with currency, validity dates and optional quantity breaks. LN consults it, through the pricing setup, when pricing sales order lines.

Why does my LN sales order show no price?

Check the order date against validity, that the item exists in the applicable book, unit and currency match, the quantity falls in a break and the customer is linked to the book through pricing data.

What is the difference between a price book and a price list?

Terms and structures differ by version and configuration, but broadly both hold prices that feed order pricing, with different levels of structure. Confirm how your LN version relates them in its Sales Control pricing documentation.

How should I update prices each year?

Add a new validity period rather than changing existing lines, check there is no gap or overlap, and test sample orders for key customers. Keep old periods so past orders remain explainable.

How to process a sales order to invoice in Infor LN

In Infor LN a sales order moves from order entry to cash through four linked steps: create and approve the Sales Orders session, release the order lines to Warehousing so a warehouse order is generated, confirm the outbound shipment, and then run the invoicing session that composes and posts the sales invoice to Financials. Each step hands off through an integration document, so a stuck invoice almost always traces back to a missing or unconfirmed step earlier in the chain.

Error fix

SAP Pricing Error: Condition Record Missing for PR00 in a Sales Order

The error means the pricing procedure expected a price condition such as PR00, found no valid record for the key, and the condition was flagged mandatory. Use the pricing analysis in the order item to see which access failed, then create the record with VK11, or fix the pricing procedure determination if the wrong procedure was selected.

How to calculate item cost prices in Infor LN

Infor LN calculates an item's cost price by rolling up material, labor, machine, subcontract and overhead costs defined against cost components, using the item's bill of material and routing as the calculation base for manufactured items and purchase price for bought items. The calculation can run in simulation mode to preview the result or in update mode to actually change the item's standard cost, which then drives inventory valuation and variance reporting going forward.

Error fix

Infor LN bshell Process Stuck at 100% CPU: How to Diagnose and Fix It

A bshell process pinned at 100% CPU on the Infor LN application server almost always means one session is stuck in a 4GL loop, scanning an unindexed table, or waiting on a database lock. End the session from the Sessions Monitor first, then kill the OS process only if that fails, and check for a blocking database transaction before assuming it is a bug.

Error fix

Infor LN Not Authorized to Run This Session: How to Fix It

Infor LN refuses to open a session with a not authorized message when the logged-in user's assigned role does not include that session, or when the session is blocked for the company they are logged into. Grant the session through Common > Authorization Management > Roles, or check the user's role and company context, and the session opens on retry. In most cases this is a permissions configuration issue, not a bug.

Error fix

Infor LN DAL Out of Sync After a Custom Field: Cause and Fix

Infor LN throws a DAL, or table, out of sync error, or simply drops a new custom field silently, when a table's dictionary definition is changed but the generated DAL and dependent forms are not regenerated afterward. Running the standard sequence, table compile, DAL generation, then session/form compile, in Tools > Development after every dictionary change resolves it. Skipping any one of the three steps is what causes the mismatch.
