China ERP Data Migration Effort Calculator

Data migration is where ERP projects in China often slip. Item names in two languages, inconsistent units and duplicate suppliers all take time. This calculator turns record counts and sampled effort into hours, weeks and cost.

Rule-of-thumb model. Calibrate review minutes by sampling 100 records from your own data before committing a schedule.

Total hours vs share of records needing cleansing

Sweeps Records needing cleansing from 5 to 100, holding your other inputs fixed.

Master data quality scan

Optional: we can run a read-only profile of your item, BOM and party data and size the clean-up.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use it

Enter counts of items, BOM lines, and customer and vendor records. Set review minutes per record from a pilot sample of about 100 records. Estimate the share that needs cleansing, then choose a complexity factor for bilingual fields and legacy codes. The tool gives cleansing hours, load and reconcile hours, total person-weeks and cost. Use the chart to see how much a pre-migration cleanup campaign would save.

How it works

Base review time is the sum of records times minutes per record. Cleansing time applies only to the share of dirty records, multiplied by the complexity factor. Loading and reconciliation is modeled as 30 percent of base review time, which covers trial loads, error correction and sign-off. Total effort is the sum of both parts. It scales linearly, so doubling clean-up percentage roughly doubles the cleansing part.

  • Cleansing = base hours x dirty share x complexity
  • Load = 30% of base hours
  • Person-weeks = total hours / 40

Common mistakes

Teams usually underestimate the dirty share. Run a quick profile for duplicates, blank fields and inconsistent units before choosing it. Another mistake is leaving business owners out. Engineers must confirm BOM and routing data, and buyers must confirm supplier records. Plan at least two trial loads. For moves between Kingdee K/3 and newer platforms, also reserve time to map custom fields and auxiliary attributes that do not have a direct target.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I pick review minutes?

Sample 100 records of each type, have a key user clean them with a stopwatch, and use the average. Items with long descriptions and attributes take longer than simple vendors, so sample by type.

Why add a language factor?

Bilingual projects need Chinese and English names, consistent unit-of-measure mapping and sometimes pinyin or code translations. Each adds checks and rework compared to a single-language load.

Is 30 percent for loading realistic?

It is a planning default. Well-scripted loads can be faster, but reconciliation and fixes from trial loads often take that long. Adjust once you have results from your first trial.

Does this include transactions?

No. It covers master data. Open orders, balances and history have their own cutover plans and are usually limited to open items plus summarized history.

If you want to profile your master data quickly before planning, we can help with a read-only data quality scan.
