ESG Data Readiness Assessment for Manufacturing Sites

Customer questionnaires, lender requests and regulations such as the EU CSRD all ask for data that most plants collect for other reasons. This assessment shows how ready your data is, without asking for any contact details.

0 of 10 answered0%

1. How are energy consumption figures collected for each site?

2. How are fuel, refrigerant and process gas quantities tracked?

3. Do you have a documented emissions calculation method with named factors and sources?

4. How do you know your waste volumes and disposal routes?

5. Do you track water withdrawal, discharge and process use?

6. How good is purchasing data for supplier and material level reporting?

7. How do you answer customer ESG questionnaires today?

8. Who owns sustainability data across plants?

9. What controls exist over data quality?

10. How current is your list of reporting obligations (regulatory and customer)?

How to use the assessment

Answer each of the ten questions for the site or business unit you are reviewing. Choose the option that matches what you do today, not what is planned. The score is converted to a percentage of the maximum and mapped to one of four bands, each with recommended next steps. Repeat for a second site and compare.

  • Answer from evidence, not memory
  • Have the energy, EHS and purchasing owners review together
  • Re-run every six months to see progress

What the questions test

The ten questions cover energy, fuels and refrigerants, calculation method, waste, water, purchasing data, questionnaire process, ownership, controls and obligations. They mirror the data chain used by frameworks such as the GHG Protocol and the ESRS environmental standards: measure, calculate, control, report. A weak link in any step limits what you can credibly disclose.

Reading your result

A low score does not mean you are non-compliant. It means answers will be slow to produce and hard to evidence. A mid range score usually shows good raw data with weak documentation. A high score shows traceability, which matters when a customer or auditor asks how a number was derived. Use the recommendations as the first three tasks on your plan.

Common mistakes

Scoring on intent, treating the most senior person's view as evidence, and overlooking purchased goods because they are hard to measure. Also avoid starting with a large software purchase before the method and ownership are settled, since tools only automate a process you have already defined.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this assessment cover a specific standard?

No. It is a general readiness check aligned with the data chain behind the GHG Protocol and common reporting frameworks. It does not certify compliance with CSRD, ISO 14064 or any customer scheme.

Who should complete it?

Ideally a small group: EHS or sustainability, finance or controlling, and purchasing or supply chain. Each sees a different part of the data chain, and disagreement between them is a useful finding.

Is my data stored?

The tool runs in your browser. Your answers are used to calculate the result on your device and are not required to be sent to Netray.

What score should I aim for?

There is no fixed target. If you only answer occasional customer questionnaires, a Building result may be enough. If you face mandatory reporting or assurance, aim for Structured or above.

If your answers point to ERP data gaps such as missing item weights or material classes, we can help scope a read-only extract and quality check.
