Exact Globe to Exact Online: Are You Ready to Move?
Moving from the on-premises Exact Globe to the cloud product Exact Online is not an upgrade. It is a change of platform, with different customization options, reporting and integration methods. This assessment shows how ready you are.
1. How much of your Exact Globe system relies on custom reports, SQL views or direct database access?
Direct database reporting does not carry over to a cloud product, so it must be rebuilt through the API or exports.
2. Which manufacturing functions do you use?
3. How many third party systems connect to Exact Globe?
4. How many legal entities and currencies do you run?
5. How clean is your item, customer and supplier data?
6. How much historical transaction data do you need online?
7. Does your IT policy and customer base allow production data in a public cloud?
8. How comfortable are your users with changing screens and workflows?
9. Have you compared Exact Online with other options for your manufacturing needs?
10. Do you have a project owner and an implementation partner with cloud migration experience?
How to use this assessment
Answer for the way Globe is used today. Ask your finance team and your IT contact together, since finance knows reporting dependence and IT knows integrations. The score is a percentage of the maximum, and the bands tell you whether to proceed, prepare or compare alternatives. Export the PDF for your steering group and revisit after your first trial migration.
What changes when you leave on-premises Globe
On premises, teams often read the SQL Server database directly for reports and integrations. In a cloud product, that access is replaced by the Exact Online REST API with OAuth authentication and rate limits, plus standard reports and exports. Customizations built around database triggers or direct writes cannot move as they are and need redesign.
- Direct SQL reports become API or export based reports
- Integrations must be re-pointed and re-tested
- Customization options differ, so process changes are likely
- Manufacturing depth should be checked function by function
Reading the result
A low score usually points to manufacturing depth or heavy database dependence, not a flaw in either product. If your production needs go beyond bills of material and simple production orders, test the specific scenarios in a trial environment before you commit. A high score means the move is mostly a data and training exercise.
Common mistakes
Teams often assume the cloud version is a like for like replacement and discover missing functions late. Others migrate years of history that nobody uses. A third error is forgetting that every integrated system, from payroll to the web shop, needs its connection reworked. List all integrations before you sign.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this assessment from Exact?
No. It is an independent readiness check. It is not endorsed by Exact, and your Exact partner should validate any plan against current product capabilities and licensing.
Can I migrate my Globe data directly into Exact Online?
Migration is usually done by extracting data, transforming it and loading it, often with partner tools. Plan trial loads and reconcile balances at each step. Exact and partners offer specific conversion approaches, so ask what applies to your version.
Does Exact Online support manufacturing?
It offers manufacturing functions suited to many small and mid-sized producers, and partners add more. Test your own scenarios, such as multi level bills of material or subcontracting, before deciding.
What happens to my custom Globe reports?
They generally need to be rebuilt using standard reports, exports or API based reporting tools. List them, check which were used in the last year, and rebuild only those.
If you need help inventorying Globe reports and integrations, or want to test API based replacements, Netray can assist as an optional extra. The assessment works fine on its own.
