Go or no-go criteria

Trial balance ties to legacy within agreed tolerance. Open work orders and inventory counts reconcile. Key interfaces pass test messages. Users can sign in and print shipping documents.

Rollback plan

If criteria are not met by 2026-11-15 20:00, the cutover lead calls a rollback. The legacy system is restored from the backup taken in step 2 and users are told when to resume. Record every transaction keyed into the new system for reentry later.

A planning template. Replace the sample tasks with your own detailed steps, durations and dependencies.

Cutover plan review

An optional review of your cutover plan and reconciliation approach.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use the template

Fill in the header fields with real dates and names, then agree the criteria with the sponsor before the weekend, not during it. Expand the task table to cover every step, including small ones like printer setup. Export the document and keep a printed copy with the cutover lead.

  • Rehearse the sequence at least once with real data volumes
  • Give every task one owner, not a team
  • Set the rollback deadline while there is still time to execute it

Why go and no-go criteria matter

Without written criteria, the decision becomes emotional by Sunday night. Measurable tests such as trial balance agreement, inventory reconciliation and interface test messages keep it factual. Rollback has a cost, but it is much smaller than operating on bad balances. Decide the tolerance for differences up front.

Common mistakes

Common failures include an unrehearsed data load that takes twice as long as planned, no one assigned to the printed documents the floor needs, and unclear communication to customers and suppliers about the switchover.

  • Load time never measured
  • Shipping documents and labels not tested
  • No hypercare staffing for the first week

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this tied to a specific ERP?

No. It is written for moves away from Infor VISUAL or XA but the structure works for any ERP cutover. Replace the task rows with the steps from your own implementation plan.

How long should a cutover take?

It depends on data volume, number of interfaces and how well rehearsed it is. Many mid-size shops plan a weekend, but your rehearsals should give the real durations.

Who decides to roll back?

The project sponsor and cutover lead, using criteria agreed in advance. Write the names on the document so nobody has to guess in the moment.

What is hypercare?

A period after go-live, often one to four weeks, with extra support staff on call to fix issues quickly. Plan its staffing and exit criteria before go-live.
