Infor VISUAL Engineering Change Notice (ECN) Template
An engineering change is easy to describe and easy to get wrong in the ERP. This template forces the questions that matter in a VISUAL shop: which part and revision, what changes in the engineering master and BOM, and what happens to open work orders and stock.

Approvals
A starting point for your own change control procedure. Align field names with your engineering master and document control rules.
Review your ECN flow
An optional short review of how engineering changes move into your ERP master data.
Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.
How to use the template
Fill in the header fields, describe the change in plain engineering language, then choose how open work orders and inventory are handled. The system updates table lists the master data areas someone must touch, so each gets an owner and a done box. Export to PDF for sign-off or Word if your process needs edits.
- Raise one ECN per part family change, not one per drawing sheet
- Attach the marked-up drawing to the export
- Name a single owner for each system update row
What an ECN should control
A good change record answers four questions: what is changing, why, when it takes effect, and what happens to material already in the pipeline. The open work order choice matters most. Work orders released against an old revision carry a copy of the old operations, so a master change does not fix them automatically. Decide explicitly whether to finish, rework or reissue.
Common mistakes
Teams often update the drawing but forget the quality plan, or change the BOM after work orders have already been released. Another frequent gap is an effective date that nobody can check on the floor. Use a serial number, a work order number or a clear release date.
- Revision changed on the part but not on the drawing file
- Supplier not told, so purchase orders still reference the old revision
- No disposition for stock, leaving old revision parts in the bin
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this template write to VISUAL?
No. It runs entirely in your browser and produces a document. The system updates table is a checklist for the people who maintain the engineering master, BOM and part records. Nothing is sent to your ERP.
Should every change get an ECN?
Any change to form, fit, function, material, process or supplier normally does. Typo fixes in descriptions may not need one. Your quality system and customer contracts decide the threshold, so check them first.
How do I handle work orders already released?
Pick one of the four options and write it on the form. Most shops finish released work at the old revision unless safety or a customer requirement forces rework. Whatever you choose, record who approved it.
Can I add my own approval roles?
The export uses five roles that suit most shops. Edit the Word export to add roles such as customer representative or regulatory affairs, or ask your quality manager which signatures your procedure requires.
If ECNs in your VISUAL system still travel as emails and spreadsheets, we can discuss how to connect the form to your engineering master data. This tool works fully without us.
