IFS Cloud Customer Order Supply Code and Project Orders

Question

Short answer

The supply code on a customer order line tells IFS how the demand will be fulfilled, for example from inventory, by a purchase order or by a shop order. For project-connected lines, the supply code together with the project and activity connection decides whether supply is reserved to the project or planned centrally.

Applies to: IFS Cloud Customer Orders with Project Management and Project Deliverables licensed. Supply code values offered depend on your configuration.

How to use supply codes on project customer order lines

  1. 1Create the customer order line and enter the part; the supply code defaults from the sales part or part supply settings.
  2. 2Connect the line to the project and activity when the order is a project deliverable (project connection on the order line or via the project deliverables).
  3. 3Open the Supply Code list on the line and choose the value that matches how you want to fulfil it (inventory, purchase order, shop order and related options in your list).
  4. 4Save and release or reserve; IFS creates the demand that planning sees, and with a project connection that demand is attributed to the project.
  5. 5Run planning (MRP or order-based planning, depending on your setup) and check that the resulting supply orders carry the project connection.
  6. 6Review project inventory or project-level stock if you reserve supply for the project rather than for general stock.
  7. 7Check the delivery and invoicing flow; project revenue and cost recognition depend on how the deliverable is configured in the project.
  8. 8Test one order end to end in a non-production environment before changing defaults.

What the supply code actually controls

The supply code is a classification on the order line that selects the supply route: take it from stock, create a purchase requisition or order, create a shop order, and so on. Planning reads that route to decide which supply order type to propose.

Because IFS uses one demand record for all of these, changing the supply code after supply orders exist can disconnect the line from the supply you already created, so change it before releasing, or cancel and recreate the supply.

How the project connection changes planning

When the line is connected to a project activity, the demand belongs to that project. Supply created for it can be tied to the same project and reserved there, which keeps project stock from being consumed by unrelated orders.

If the line has no project connection, the same supply code behaves like a normal stock or purchase flow. Many reported mismatches come from a line that looks like a project line on screen but was never connected to an activity.

Checking the result

Start from the customer order line, follow the supply link to the shop order, purchase order or reservation, and confirm the project and activity on each. If they differ, the connection was lost or defaulted.

Compare the planned delivery date with the project schedule: a project-driven date and a customer-requested date can both be on the line, and planning follows the one your configuration says wins.

Common pitfalls

  • !Choosing a supply code that your part is not set up for, which blocks release or creates unexpected supply.
  • !Changing the supply code after supply orders exist without cancelling them first.
  • !Assuming a project order line is project-connected when the activity was never set.
  • !Mixing project stock and general stock for the same part without clear reservation rules.
  • !Not testing planning output after changing default supply code on the sales part.

How an ERP-grounded AI assistant handles this

A grounded assistant can answer why a given order line produced a purchase order instead of a shop order by reading the line, the part's supply settings and the project connection, then showing the chain. Netray builds this as a read-only layer on private models beside IFS, with actions left to the planner.

Frequently asked questions

What is the supply code on an IFS customer order line?

It is the field that states how the line will be supplied: from inventory, purchase, shop order and similar routes. Planning and the order release steps use it to create the right kind of supply.

Does a project supply code reserve stock to the project?

The project connection on the line, together with the supply route, determines whether supply is dedicated to the project. Without the connection it behaves like normal supply, so check the activity link.

Can I change the supply code after the order is released?

It depends on status and existing supply orders. Often you must first cancel or disconnect the supply. Do this in test first to learn what your configuration allows.

Why does my project order show no supply after planning?

Typical causes are a missing activity connection, a supply code not allowed for the part, a planning run that excluded the site, or demand outside the planning horizon.

IFS Cloud Background Job Stuck in Posted or Executing

A background job that stays Posted is waiting for a batch queue processor that is not picking it up, while one that stays Executing is either genuinely long-running or orphaned after a crash or restart. Check the Background Jobs page for the job state and error text, confirm the batch queue is active with capacity, then requeue or cancel the job.

How to Set Up Business Events and Actions in IFS

IFS Business Events fire when a defined condition on a Logical Unit is met, such as a new record, an update, or a specific attribute changing, and Actions subscribe to those events to send email, invoke a workflow, or call an external service. Both are configured in Solution Manager (or the Events and Actions work area in IFS Cloud) without requiring custom PL/SQL for most standard cases.

How to Create a Custom Lobby Page in IFS Cloud

An IFS Cloud lobby page is a personal or shared dashboard built from elements such as lists, charts, gauges and shortcuts. Each data element reads from an information source, so the usual build path is to define or reuse an information source, add an element in the lobby designer, bind it, and then share the page with the right users.

IFS Cloud: Unable to Save, Internal Server Error and Quick Report Problems

In IFS Cloud a save failure or internal server error is almost always a server-side exception returned through the projection the page calls. Read the error detail, reproduce it in the browser network tab, then check the middleware and database logs for the real cause, which is typically a business rule, a missing permission, a bad customization or a stale cache. Quick Report problems are usually a missing permission grant or mismatched bind parameters.

Treat IFS Cloud configuration as a set of building blocks: workflows or business events to react to changes, external file templates to load or send flat files, an update analysis step to check what a release will touch in your customizations, and the supported database views for reading data such as purchase order status. IFS Cloud Report Designer, Quick Reports and Crystal Reports: Which to Use

IFS Cloud has several reporting routes. Use Quick Reports for fast read-only lists of data, the report designer route for formatted operational documents such as order confirmations and pick lists, legacy Crystal-based layouts only where you already have them, and the analytical tools for dashboards. Report rules then control when and how a report is produced and sent.
