IFS Cloud Customer Hierarchy: How to Sort and Manage It

Question
ifs cloud customer hierarchy sort

Also searched as

  • ifs customer hierarchy
  • ifs cloud customer hierarchy parent child

Short answer

An IFS Cloud customer hierarchy arranges customers as parents and children under a named hierarchy. The tree order follows the structure you define, so to change what you see you change the structure, the node sequence if offered, or use list sorting and filtering on the underlying customers.

Applies to: IFS Cloud with the customer hierarchy functionality. Available sort controls differ by release, so verify on your version.

Organise and sort a customer hierarchy

  1. 1Open the Customer Hierarchy page and select the hierarchy you want to work on.
  2. 2Review the tree: each node is a customer placed under a parent, with its level.
  3. 3To move a customer, change its parent in the hierarchy rather than editing customer data.
  4. 4For ordering inside the tree, use the sequence or sort option on the nodes if your release offers it.
  5. 5For a sorted flat view, use the list view of the same data and sort by column header, such as name or customer id.
  6. 6Save, then reopen to confirm the order persisted.
  7. 7If you need a custom sort that the screen does not offer, export the data or read it via the API and sort downstream.

How the hierarchy is built

A hierarchy has a top node and children nested beneath it. Customers can belong to different hierarchies for different purposes, such as legal ownership versus sales territory.

Because the tree reflects relationships, it is not simply a sorted list. Alphabetical order only applies among siblings, and only where the page supports it.

Why the order looks wrong

The common causes are customers attached under unexpected parents, a hierarchy being viewed for a different purpose than expected, or sorting being applied to the flat list rather than the tree.

Fix the structure first. Cosmetic sorting on top of a wrong structure just hides the problem.

Governance

Decide who may change hierarchies, since a moved node can change credit exposure roll-ups, pricing agreements or reporting. Use permission sets to restrict maintenance and keep a record of changes.

Common pitfalls

  • !Assuming the tree is sorted alphabetically across levels.
  • !Moving a node without checking credit or pricing impacts.
  • !Using one hierarchy for several unrelated purposes.
  • !Giving broad edit rights to everyone.

How an ERP-grounded AI assistant handles this

An assistant over your IFS data can answer questions like which customers sit under this parent and which have no parent, and display the query it used. It is read-only and honours IFS permissions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sort the customer hierarchy alphabetically?

Where the page offers a sort or sequence option, yes among siblings. Otherwise use the flat list and sort by column. The options depend on your release.

How do I move a customer to another parent?

Change its parent node in the hierarchy page and save. Check credit and pricing effects first.

Can a customer be in two hierarchies?

Generally yes, since different hierarchies can serve different purposes. Confirm how your configuration treats this.

Who should maintain hierarchies?

A small group such as sales administration, enforced through permission sets.

IFS Cloud: Add a Permission Set, What an IAM User Is and Linking an Employee to a Supervisor

An IAM user is the sign-in identity held in IFS Identity and Access Management, which authenticates the person. The IFS application user and its permission sets decide what that person may do. To add access, grant a permission set to the application user and make sure the identity maps to it; the supervisor relationship is an employee and organization setting, not a security one.

IFS Cloud Export to Excel, List of Values, Analysis Models and Dev Tools

In IFS Cloud (Aurena) you export a list to Excel from the options menu of the list or page you are on, and the export respects your filters, visible columns and permission sets. List of values (LOV) fields are lookups bound to a projection entity, analysis models are the multidimensional reporting layer, and the web and dev tools are the Aurena design-time and browser tools.

Error fix

IFS Cloud: Unable to Save, Internal Server Error and Quick Report Problems

In IFS Cloud a save failure or internal server error is almost always a server-side exception returned through the projection the page calls. Read the error detail, reproduce it in the browser network tab, then check the middleware and database logs for the real cause, which is typically a business rule, a missing permission, a bad customization or a stale cache. Quick Report problems are usually a missing permission grant or mismatched bind parameters.

IFS Cloud Workflow Example, External File Templates, Update Analyzer and PO Status

Treat IFS Cloud configuration as a set of building blocks: workflows or business events to react to changes, external file templates to load or send flat files, an update analysis step to check what a release will touch in your customizations, and the supported database views for reading data such as purchase order status. This page shows how each fits together with a worked approval example.

IFS Cloud Report Designer, Quick Reports and Crystal Reports: Which to Use

IFS Cloud has several reporting routes. Use Quick Reports for fast read-only lists of data, the report designer route for formatted operational documents such as order confirmations and pick lists, legacy Crystal-based layouts only where you already have them, and the analytical tools for dashboards. Report rules then control when and how a report is produced and sent.

IFS Cloud Versions: Release Names, Solution Sets and How to Check Yours

IFS Cloud releases are named by year and half, such as 22R1 and 23R2, with service updates between feature releases. Solution sets are packaged industry or regional content layered on the core product, for example for aerospace and defense, Europe-specific needs or service industries. To see which version you run, use the About information in the client or ask your administrator for the installed release and update level.
