Short answer

These are numeric runtime errors raised by the LN database layer or the underlying RDBMS driver. The number alone is not the diagnosis. The message text, the table and the database log together tell you whether it is a lock, a key or constraint violation, a connection issue or a missing object.

Applies to: Infor LN 10.x and Baan 5.x on Oracle or SQL Server; the numeric meaning is version dependent.

Get from the number to the cause

  1. 1Capture the full message: the table name, the operation (read, write, delete, lock) and the user and session.
  2. 2Open the bshell log and the database driver log for the same time. They typically include the native database error behind the LN number.
  3. 3Look up the code in the error messages for your version rather than relying on forum answers. Numeric codes have changed meaning across versions.
  4. 4If the table is named, check it exists, is physically created and in sync with its definition (Create Runtime Data Dictionary and Convert to Runtime if customized).
  5. 5Check the database itself: locks, deadlocks, tablespace or log space, and connectivity to the database server.
  6. 6Reproduce with a single user to rule out concurrency before escalating.

Reading the error as a layered stack

LN does not talk to the database directly. A session calls the database driver, which translates operations into SQL and returns a result code. Errors in the 500 range have commonly been reported for table-level operations that failed in the driver, while 2xx codes belong to the classic Baan database layer. Treat that as a pattern, not a rule, and confirm for your version.

The point is that the same number can come from different root causes: a lock conflict, a duplicate key, a table that does not exist yet, or a lost database session. The native error in the driver log disambiguates.

Common root causes by symptom

If the failure appears during a write on a table with a unique index, suspect a duplicate key from data conversion or a custom script. If it appears only at busy times, suspect lock contention or deadlocks. If it appears right after a customization deployment, suspect the runtime data dictionary being out of sync with the table.

If it starts for all users at once, look at the database server: expired credentials for the LN database account, a stopped listener, a full tablespace, or a failover.

-- Oracle: sessions blocking others
SELECT blocking_session, sid, serial#, wait_class FROM v$session WHERE blocking_session IS NOT NULL;

When to escalate

Escalate to Infor support with the exact message, the table, the bshell and driver logs and your LN version and porting set. Without those, support will ask for them first. Escalate to the DBA if the native error is a database error such as space, lock or connectivity.

Common pitfalls

  • !Googling the number and applying a fix written for another version.
  • !Killing database sessions without checking what they were doing.
  • !Fixing duplicate key errors by deleting data without finding the source.
  • !Skipping the DD sync step after customizations.
  • !Not preserving logs before restarting services.

How an ERP-grounded AI assistant handles this

A private assistant can index your own historical incidents, logs and change records, then answer 'we saw error 512 on this table last March and it was a deployment out of sync' with the source cited. It stays inside your network, which matters when logs contain production data. It supports the admin and does not run fixes.

Frequently asked questions

Is error 512 the same in every LN version?

Do not assume so. Numeric codes are version and driver dependent. Use the message text and the native database error in the logs to decide what it is.

Is error 201 a database or application error?

In Baan lineage 2xx numbers are database layer conditions. Read the accompanying text and the table name; the same number can follow different causes.

Can I just retry the operation?

For a transient lock or connectivity problem, yes. For a key violation or missing object, retrying repeats the failure.

Who should look at it, the LN admin or the DBA?

Start with the LN admin to collect logs, then involve the DBA when the native error shows a database condition.

Infor LN: "Record is locked by another user" error

This error means another LN session, interactive or batch, is holding an update lock on the same table row you are trying to change. Find the locking user or session in Active Sessions, confirm it is stale rather than genuinely running, and either wait or terminate it before you retry.

Error fix

Infor LN error 205: how to diagnose and fix it

Error 205 is a numeric database-layer error. In Baan and LN lineage it is commonly seen on write operations that conflict with an existing record, such as a duplicate key, but you should confirm for your version from the message text and logs. Identify the table and operation, check the key and any custom script or conversion that wrote the record, then correct the data or the logic.

Error fix

Infor LN DAL Out of Sync After a Custom Field: Cause and Fix

Infor LN throws a DAL, or table, out of sync error, or simply drops a new custom field silently, when a table's dictionary definition is changed but the generated DAL and dependent forms are not regenerated afterward. Running the standard sequence, table compile, DAL generation, then session/form compile, in Tools > Development after every dictionary change resolves it. Skipping any one of the three steps is what causes the mismatch.

How to diagnose and fix a slow Infor LN session

A slow Infor LN session is usually caused by an unindexed or overly broad database query, unarchived data bloating a transaction table, or resource pressure on the Java application tier, and occasionally by a recently added custom DAL2 handler. The fix starts with isolating which tier the delay is actually in rather than guessing at a solution.

Infor LN bshell Process Stuck at 100% CPU: How to Diagnose and Fix It

A bshell process pinned at 100% CPU on the Infor LN application server almost always means one session is stuck in a 4GL loop, scanning an unindexed table, or waiting on a database lock. End the session from the Sessions Monitor first, then kill the OS process only if that fails, and check for a blocking database transaction before assuming it is a bug.

Error fix

Infor LN Not Authorized to Run This Session: How to Fix It

Infor LN refuses to open a session with a not authorized message when the logged-in user's assigned role does not include that session, or when the session is blocked for the company they are logged into. Grant the session through Common > Authorization Management > Roles, or check the user's role and company context, and the session opens on retry. In most cases this is a permissions configuration issue, not a bug.
