The functional core spans item and business partner master data, sales and procurement, Warehousing with its own order and procedure model, manufacturing with routings and shop floor control, Enterprise Planning for supply planning, Project for contract and program work, Service for installed base and field work, and Financials with a multi-company ledger. Aerospace and defense customers lean particularly on project pegging, configuration control and traceability, which is why LN shows up so often in that sector.

Technically LN still runs on the Baan platform lineage: sessions identified by codes such as tdsls4101m000, a Tools data dictionary describing every table and field, 3GL and 4GL scripts compiled to pseudo-code and executed by the bshell, porting sets adapting the runtime to each operating system and database, and VRC layering separating standard code from site code. What has changed is the front end and the customization model: a modern web UI and the extension framework rather than modified standard source.

Deployment options now split between on-premises or hosted LN 10.x and Infor's cloud editions, where LN is delivered as CloudSuite Industrial Enterprise and the industry variants built on it, such as the aerospace and defense CloudSuite. The cloud editions apply Infor's update cadence, which is the practical reason extensions replaced classic customizations: only code that lives outside the standard layer survives frequent, vendor-controlled updates.

Who is Infor LN best suited for?

LN fits manufacturers with genuine enterprise complexity: multiple plants or legal entities, engineer-to-order or project-driven production, deep configuration requirements, and regulated traceability such as aerospace and defense. Companies with a single plant and straightforward make-to-stock production usually find SyteLine or CloudSuite Industrial faster to implement and cheaper to own over a full lifecycle.

Keys and column names can vary between Baan IV, Baan 5 and LN releases, and customizations add fields. Always check the data dictionary in your own VRC. Physical table names in the database add a leading t and the company number, so tdsls400 in company 100 is ttdsls400100.
