Infor M3 Scheduling Options (APS162 and Job Scheduling)

Short answer
Scheduling in M3 has two meanings. Planning scheduling sets dates and capacity for manufacturing orders, forward or backward, with infinite or finite capacity. Job scheduling runs batch programs such as MRP at set times. We cannot verify APS162 details from public sources, so confirm what that program does in your release before you change it.
Applies to: Infor M3 manufacturing and planning, with or without advanced planning and scheduling. Program names vary by release.
Choose and configure scheduling
- 1Decide the planning question: do you need dates only (infinite capacity), or a plan that respects work center load (finite capacity)?
- 2Check item and warehouse planning parameters such as lead times, which feed the scheduling dates.
- 3Check routings and work center capacity, calendars and efficiency. Scheduling is only as good as these.
- 4Choose the scheduling direction for orders: backward from the due date for make-to-order, forward from the start for urgent jobs.
- 5If you use advanced scheduling, review the options in the scheduling program you use, including APS162 if it appears in your menu, and read its documentation for your version first.
- 6Set up the job scheduler for the batch runs: MRP, scheduling regeneration and clean-up, with sensible times and a named owner.
- 7Test in a sandbox with a copy of production data, compare planned dates to reality, then tune.
Planning schedule versus job schedule
Planning scheduling calculates start and finish dates of manufacturing order operations from routing times, work center calendars and lead times. Infinite scheduling ignores load and gives you dates quickly. Finite scheduling places operations into available capacity and exposes overloads, at the cost of heavier master data and more tuning.
Job scheduling is different. It decides when background jobs run. MRP, for example, is normally scheduled for off-hours. A job that never ran is a common reason planned orders are stale.
About APS162
People search for APS162 along with scheduling options, which suggests it is a program in the advanced planning area. We have not found a reliable public reference that defines each of its options, so we do not describe them here. Do not copy a settings list from a forum. Open the program, read the field help, and check the Infor documentation for your version.
If you inherit a configuration, export the current values before changing anything so that you can roll back.
Getting good dates
Most bad schedules come from data: routing times that are guesses, work centers without calendars, and lead times that nobody maintains. Fix these before reaching for finite scheduling.
Compare planned versus actual order completion over several weeks. That error is the real measure of your scheduling quality.

Common pitfalls
- !Turning on finite scheduling with poor routing data.
- !Changing scheduling parameters in production without a sandbox test.
- !Relying on a batch job that silently failed overnight.
- !Copying APS option values from another site.
- !Not exporting current settings before a change.
How an ERP-grounded AI assistant handles this
An assistant can report which orders slipped, which work centers are overloaded and which scheduled jobs failed last night, from live data and with the query shown. Netray builds this as a read-only layer that can run on-prem, and leaves parameter changes to your planners.
Frequently asked questions
Does M3 do finite capacity scheduling?
M3 offers capacity-aware planning and scheduling, with the depth depending on the modules you license. Many sites run infinite scheduling and review load separately.
How do I schedule MRP to run nightly?
Use the M3 job scheduler to create a job for the MRP run with its parameters and a time, and check the job history for failures.
What is APS162?
It appears in the advanced planning area, but we cannot confirm its options from reliable public sources. Check the field help and Infor documentation for your release.

Infor M3 MRP not creating planned orders: what to check
If M3 planning does not suggest an order for an item, the item-warehouse is usually not set up to be planned, the demand is not visible to planning in the horizon, existing supply already covers it, or the planning run did not include the item. Check the item-warehouse planning parameters first, then supply and demand, then the run itself.
AdvancedInfor Factory Track for M3: Shop Floor Data Collection Explained
Infor Factory Track is a shop floor data collection and execution product used with M3 so that operators report production, time and materials at the machine instead of on paper or at an ERP terminal. It reads released manufacturing orders from M3 and writes reported quantities and times back, so M3 costing and planning see actuals.
How-toInfor M3 manufacturing order material not allocated or short
When an M3 manufacturing order shows components as short or unallocated, the cause is usually available stock that is not allocatable to this order, an allocation method that did not run, or a demand date and warehouse that do not match the stock. Compare the MO materials (MWOMAT) with the allocations (MITALO) and the item-warehouse balance, then fix the stock, the method or the warehouse rather than forcing the allocation.
Error fixM3 API Error: Record already exist
Record already exist means the MI Add transaction you called is trying to insert a key that is already present in the target M3 table, most often because a prior call succeeded and was retried, or because the key fields you built do not match what you think they match. Read the errorField and errorFieldGroup attributes on the response to see exactly which key field M3 flagged, then either switch to the matching Chg (change) transaction or fix the key construction in the caller.
AdvancedPaging M3 API MI List Transactions Past the Default Record Limit
M3 List transactions (the read/browse transaction most MI programs expose, such as CRS610MI.LstByNumber or OIS100MI.LstOrderHead) cap the rows returned per call using the MaxReturnedRecords input field, and by default many clients leave it low or unset, which looks like the API silently truncating results. Set MaxReturnedRecords explicitly, then loop the call using the last key values from the previous page as the starting position until fewer rows than the limit come back.
Error fixM3 API Error: Not Authorized to Program
Not authorized to program (or the equivalent transaction-level authorization error) means the M3 user ID the integration authenticates as can log in fine but has not been granted access to that specific MI program, transaction, or company/division through its authority group. Fixing it means adding the program/transaction to the integration user's authority group in M3, not changing anything in the calling code.
