Oracle EBS Advanced Pricing: Price Lists, Modifiers, Qualifiers and Formulas

Question
oracle ebs advanced pricing

Also searched as

  • oracle advanced pricing modifiers setup

  • oracle advanced pricing formulas
  • oracle ebs pricing engine not applying modifier

Short answer

Oracle Advanced Pricing sets a base price from a price list (optionally calculated by a formula) and then applies modifiers such as discounts, surcharges and promotional goods in a defined order of phases. Qualifiers decide who and what a list or modifier applies to. When a price or discount does not apply, check the qualifier, the pricing phase, the effective dates, the incompatibility group and the attribute mapping.

Applies to: Oracle E-Business Suite R12.1 and R12.2 with Advanced Pricing licensed and Order Management or Quoting calling the pricing engine.

Basic setup sequence

  1. 1Confirm the Advanced Pricing responsibility and profile options (such as the source system code and pricing transaction entity) are set for your products.
  2. 2Set up pricing attributes and contexts, and run the attribute mapping process so that order and item attributes can be used in pricing rules.
  3. 3Create price lists and add lines by item or item category, with unit of measure, price and effective dates.
  4. 4Create qualifier groups for customer, price list, order type or other criteria, so that you can reuse them.
  5. 5Create modifier lists, and add lines such as discount, surcharge, freight charge or promotional goods, each with a level (line or order), phase and incompatibility group.
  6. 6Define formulas where a price depends on a calculation, such as cost plus a markup, using formula lines of type function, numeric or price list.
  7. 7Test with a sales order, and use the pricing request viewer to see which lists and modifiers were considered and why.

How the engine works

The pricing engine takes a request from the calling application with the item, quantity, customer and other attributes. It first picks a price list line to get the base price, then evaluates modifiers in phases, such as line-level adjustments and order-level adjustments. Each modifier passes only if its qualifiers and pricing attributes match the request and it is not blocked by another modifier in its incompatibility group.

Understanding phases matters because it controls order of application. A percentage discount applied before a surcharge produces a different result than the reverse, and 'best price' incompatibility rules decide which of several competing discounts wins.

Qualifiers and attributes

A qualifier limits who gets a list or modifier: a customer, customer class, price list, order type or other attribute. Qualifiers can be set on the list header, applying to all lines, or on a single line. Group qualifiers with AND and OR logic carefully, since overlapping groups often explain why a discount did not apply.

Pricing attributes limit what the line applies to, such as an item, item category or a product attribute. These require the attribute mapping to be built so the engine can read the order data.

Why a price or discount does not apply

Work through a short list: does the customer meet the qualifier, are the dates effective, is the modifier active and approved, is the unit of measure matched, is the phase correct, and is another modifier in the same incompatibility group giving a better price? Also check that attribute mapping ran after any change to pricing attributes.

Use the pricing engine request viewer, where available, and the debug option to log the pricing call. The log shows which lists were considered and which modifiers were rejected and why, and it is the quickest way to move from guessing to fact.

SELECT h.list_header_id, h.name, h.list_type_code, h.start_date_active, h.end_date_active
FROM qp_list_headers_vl h
WHERE h.active_flag = 'Y'
ORDER  BY h.name;

Common pitfalls

  • !Changing pricing attributes without rebuilding the attribute mapping.
  • !Overlapping modifiers with the wrong incompatibility group, so a different discount wins.
  • !Setting qualifiers on both header and lines with conflicting logic.
  • !Not testing end dates, so a price list silently expires.
  • !Editing production lists without a test copy and a documented rollback.

How an ERP-grounded AI assistant handles this

Pricing complaints come as questions like why did this customer get that price. An assistant grounded in your EBS pricing tables and order data can trace which price list and modifiers apply to a given customer and item, show the SQL, and stay read-only. Netray deploys it on-prem so price lists and customer terms remain inside your network.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a price list and a modifier?

A price list gives the base price of an item. A modifier changes that price afterward, for example with a discount, surcharge, freight charge or free goods. Both can be restricted by qualifiers.

What are qualifiers in Oracle Advanced Pricing?

Qualifiers decide who or what a price list or modifier applies to, such as a customer, customer class or order type. They can be defined on the header or on a line and combined in groups with AND and OR logic.

Why is my modifier not applying to the order?

Check qualifiers, effective dates, active status, phase, level, unit of measure and incompatibility groups. Also confirm attribute mapping ran. A pricing debug log will show whether the modifier was considered and why it was rejected.

Can I base prices on a formula?

Yes. Formulas can calculate a price using price list values, numeric constants, functions and factor lists, for example cost plus a percentage. Test them carefully, since errors in a formula affect every order using the line.

Fix Oracle EBS Order Lines Stuck in Awaiting Shipping

An OM order line sits at Awaiting Shipping because its OEOL workflow is waiting for Ship Confirm, or because the workflow is deferred, errored or never started. Check the line's workflow status in the Workflow Status Monitor, confirm Pick Release and Ship Confirm actually ran, make sure the Workflow Background Process for OEOL is running, and retry the errored activity.

AutoInvoice import fails with invalid line/header exceptions

AutoInvoice rejects lines when the interface data references an invalid or inactive customer, transaction type, GL date outside an open period, currency, or accounting flexfield combination. The AutoInvoice Execution Report and RA_INTERFACE_ERRORS_ALL tell you exactly which interface line and which field failed validation, so start there rather than guessing at the source system feed.

How to Create an Item in Oracle EBS

In Oracle EBS you create an item in the Master Items form (Inventory > Items > Master Items) while in the item master organization. Enter the item number and description, apply a template, set attributes on the tabs, save, then use Tools > Organization Assignment to enable the item in the child organizations that will stock, buy or build it.

Organization Structure in Oracle EBS: Ledger, Legal Entity, Operating Unit, Inventory Org

Oracle EBS R12 organizes the enterprise as ledgers (accounting), legal entities (legal and tax), operating units (transactions for AP, AR, PO and OM) and inventory organizations (stock and manufacturing), usually under a business group for HR. Operating units are assigned to a ledger and a legal entity, and access is controlled through the MO security profile. Mask personal and financial data before copying production into test.

Error fix

Fix FRM-40735: WHEN-VALIDATE-RECORD Trigger Raised Unhandled Exception ORA-06508

FRM-40735 with ORA-06508 almost always means a PL/SQL package used by the form was recompiled while your session still held the old cached state, or the trigger's own exception handling does not trap a real data error. Exit the form completely and re-enter it; if the error repeats for all users, recompile invalid objects on the database and check for a bad custom trigger.

Oracle EBS Concurrent Manager Will Not Start: How to Fix It

A concurrent manager that will not start in Oracle EBS is almost always one of three things: the node registered in FND_NODES no longer matches the actual hostname (common after cloning), stale OS processes are blocking a fresh start, or the database and listener the manager connects to are unreachable. Check the internal manager log, verify the node name, clear stale processes, and restart with adcmctl.sh.
