How to connect Claude to Oracle E-Business Suite

Short answer

Claude reaches EBS through tools you define: usually an MCP server or an API gateway sitting in front of a reporting schema or Integrated SOA Gateway. You can call Claude through the Anthropic API or through AWS Bedrock or Google Vertex. If data must never leave your site, use an open-weight model with the same tool design.

Claude is strong at reading long, messy inputs: PO terms, quality procedures, email threads, SQL and PL/SQL. Those are exactly the things an EBS team spends time on, but Claude has no native view into your instance.

The bridge is a set of tools. With the Model Context Protocol you publish those tools once and any MCP-capable client can use them. Where MCP is not available, the same functions can be declared as tool definitions in a direct API call.

This page covers the connection pattern for EBS specifically, the three ways to host Claude, and the case where the right answer is not Claude at all.

What teams use it for

Read supplier contracts against PO terms

Ask Claude to compare incoterms or payment terms in a contract PDF with those in PO_HEADERS_ALL for the same supplier and list mismatches.

Explain a customisation

Give Claude a package body or a CUSTOM.pll library and ask what it changes, where it may break on a patch and how to test it.

Investigate an inventory discrepancy

With read tools over on-hand and transaction history, trace why an item shows negative quantity in one subinventory.

Draft interface mapping

Map a trading partner file layout to an open interface table, with a list of required fields and validations.

Summarise a month-end close issue list

Condense unaccounted transactions and stuck interface rows into an action list per owner.

Upgrade impact notes

Compare lists of customisations against patch readme text to flag ones likely affected.

Oracle E-Business Suite integration surface

  • A custom MCP server you host, exposing a handful of read-only tools backed by a reporting schema or ISG REST services.
  • Integrated SOA Gateway services from the Integration Repository where deployed: managed SOAP or REST, with security configured per service.
  • Direct read access to base or custom views for items (MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS_B), orders (OE_ORDER_HEADERS_ALL, OE_ORDER_LINES_ALL), purchasing (PO_HEADERS_ALL) and WIP, through a limited database user.
  • File surfaces: concurrent program output, BI Publisher output and attachments in FND_DOCUMENTS, which are the main sources for long-document reasoning.
  • Authentication to EBS happens in your server, not in the model: the server uses a service account and enforces the end user's scope.

How it works

  1. 1

    Choose the hosting route

Anthropic API directly, Claude on AWS Bedrock, or Claude on Google Vertex. Pick based on your existing cloud contracts, region needs and data-processing terms.

  2. 2

    Build the tool server

Implement a small MCP server (or API tool functions) with names like get_item, get_po_status, get_open_shipments. Return compact JSON.

  3. 3

    Bind identity

Map each caller to an EBS user or responsibility and apply operating-unit context before querying.

  4. 4

    Keep documents separate

For contracts and procedures, index them in a store you control and return only the relevant excerpts to the model.

  5. 5

    Test with real questions

Collect 50 questions your planners ask and score the answers against what an expert gets from the forms.

  6. 6

    Add write proposals later

If you need changes, stage them for approval and post through open interfaces.

Example flows

Contract versus PO check

Trigger: Buyer uploads a new supplier agreement.

  1. Claude extracts payment terms, lead time and price breaks.
  2. A tool fetches the active PO terms for that vendor site.
  3. Claude produces a table of differences.
  4. Buyer decides which side to correct.

Result: A review that used to take an hour of side-by-side reading.

Negative on-hand investigation

Trigger: Cycle counter reports negative quantity for an item.

  1. Tool returns recent material transactions for the item and subinventory.
  2. Claude identifies the issue that preceded the receipt.
  3. It points to the transaction source and the likely cause, such as a backflush before receipt.
  4. Analyst corrects via a controlled transaction.

Result: Root cause with the supporting rows, not a guess.

Keeping data on-prem

Claude is a hosted model: through the Anthropic API, Bedrock or Vertex your prompts and tool results leave your network to that provider's environment under its stated terms. If your EBS data is under ITAR, customer-controlled or simply a no-cloud policy, do not send it. Keep the same MCP-style tool server inside your network, point it at an open-weight model served with vLLM or Ollama on your own GPUs, and use Claude only for non-sensitive work such as code explanation on sanitised snippets. Review the provider's current data-retention and regional options directly rather than assuming.

Security checklist

  • Treat the tool server as the security boundary: it authenticates, scopes and rate-limits, not the model.
  • Return the minimum columns needed and cap row counts per call.
  • Do not place secrets or connection strings in prompts or tool descriptions.
  • Log tool calls with user identity and keep logs inside your network.
  • Review the cloud route (direct API, Bedrock or Vertex) with your security team, including region and retention settings.

Ways to get it done

Claude with a vendor or community MCP connector

Effort: Low to moderate

Check whether a maintained EBS connector exists; if one does, vet it like any third-party code with database access.

Build your own MCP server

Effort: 3 to 8 weeks

You want control over tools and security.

Private model with Netray

Effort: 4 to 10 weeks

Data cannot leave your site.

Pitfalls

  • !Giving the model a generic run_sql tool, which invites unbounded queries and cross-org leakage.
  • !Putting whole contract PDFs and full tables into context instead of retrieving excerpts.
  • !Assuming a cloud region choice alone satisfies a data-residency or export-control obligation.
  • !Testing only with simple lookups and not with ambiguous real questions.
  • !Leaving the tool server on a developer laptop with a personal database account.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an official Claude connector for Oracle E-Business Suite?

We are not aware of a vendor-supported one for classic EBS, and availability changes. The usual route is a small MCP server you host that wraps a reporting schema or ISG services. Check current directories before building.

Should I use Anthropic API, Bedrock or Vertex?

Whichever fits your existing cloud agreements, regions and procurement. The tool-calling pattern is the same. Your security team should review data handling and retention for the specific route.

Can Claude run inside my data centre?

No, Claude is offered as a hosted service. For fully on-prem or air-gapped use, run an open-weight model locally and keep the same tool design.

Can Claude change data in EBS?

It can if you build write tools, but we advise proposals with human approval, posted through open interface tables or public APIs so EBS validation and audit still apply.

Is Claude good at PL/SQL customisations?

It is useful for explaining and reviewing PL/SQL and forms personalisations, and for drafting tests. Always review output and test on a non-production instance before any change.
