The Planning Workbench filter configuration determines which messages surface and in what order.

• Filter by Planner Code to show only exceptions assigned to the current planner's responsibility
• Sort by dollar impact (extended cost x quantity) to prioritize high-value exceptions first
• Exclude reschedule messages within tolerance window (e.g., suppress reschedule <3 days)
• Highlight expedite messages (reschedule-in) separately from defer messages (reschedule-out)

An effective planner daily routine in SyteLine follows a structured sequence: review critical exceptions, process planned order releases, evaluate reschedule recommendations, and update the planning board. The Planning Workbench should be configured to support this sequence with saved filter views and quick-action capabilities.

• Morning priority review: Release messages for orders due within the planning fence (15-20 minutes)
• Reschedule-in review: expedite actions sorted by customer priority and dollar value (30 minutes)
• Planned order firming: convert planned orders to firm planned orders for the next 2-week horizon
• Reschedule-out evaluation: assess carrying cost vs rescheduling cost for each defer recommendation
• End-of-day update: mark processed exceptions as acknowledged, note action taken in planner comments

MRP Output Analysis and Parameter Feedback

The Planning Workbench also serves as a diagnostic tool for MRP parameter quality. Persistent patterns in exception messages indicate parameter tuning opportunities. If MRP consistently generates reschedule messages for the same items, the root cause is likely incorrect lead times, lot sizes, or safety stock levels rather than genuine demand changes.
