How SPS Commerce Fulfillment (EDI) connects to Infor CloudSuite Industrial (SyteLine)
Pre-built connection using Infor ION BOD XML
SPS's Infor partner page describes a connection that exchanges Infor ION Business Object Documents. Sales orders arrive in SyteLine as inbound BODs, and ship and invoice data leave as outbound BODs, which SPS translates into the trading partner's EDI documents (850, 856, 810 and similar).
Managed EDI network
SPS runs the VAN-free network, the partner onboarding and the translation maps. For an on-prem SyteLine you need ION available and reachable by the SPS connection, which is a network and security design item as much as a software one.
What data moves
| From | To | Data | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trading partner via SPS | SyteLine | Purchase orders (850) become customer orders | Partner sends the PO to SPS |
| SyteLine | SPS | Advance ship notice (856) with cartons, items and tracking | Shipment confirmed in SyteLine |
| SyteLine | SPS | Invoice (810) | Invoice posted |
| SPS | SyteLine | PO changes and cancellations | Partner sends 860 or cancel |
| SyteLine | SPS | Order acknowledgements and inventory feeds, where the partner requires them | Order entry or scheduled export |
Setting it up
- 1List trading partners and documentsGet the exact EDI documents and spec versions each partner requires, since each retailer and distributor has its own rules.
- 2Confirm ION and BOD readinessVerify ION is installed and the sales order, shipment and invoice BODs are configured for your SyteLine release.
- 3Establish the SPS connectionWork with SPS to configure the connection to ION and the network path for an on-prem instance.
- 4Map partner data to SyteLineMap partner item numbers and ship-to codes to your items and customers, including UPC or GTIN and store numbers.
- 5Configure packing and labelingSet up carton and pallet data so ASNs match the labels. Retailers often fine you for ASN and label mismatches.
- 6Test with each partnerRun test orders end to end including ASN and invoice, and get the partner's sign-off.
- 7Monitor and handle exceptionsSet a daily review of rejected documents and chargebacks.
What usually breaks
- !Retailer chargebacks for late or inaccurate ASNs are the most costly failure; ASN must be sent before the truck arrives and match what ships.
- !Item cross references (buyer part to your item, UPC) that are wrong send orders to the wrong product or create errors on import.
- !Ship-to and store codes not mapped in SyteLine cause new orders to fail until someone creates the customer ship-to.
- !Unit of measure differences between partner packs and your selling unit produce wrong quantities.
- !Duplicate POs resent by the partner can create duplicate orders if duplicate detection by PO number is not enforced.
- !BOD messages stuck in an ION queue after a SyteLine outage go unnoticed unless someone watches the queue.
A private AI layer across both systems
Rejected document triage
A private assistant can read ION error messages and SPS rejections, group them by cause and suggest the fix, such as a missing ship-to mapping, for a person to approve.
Chargeback prevention
It can compare shipments to ASNs sent and flag late or mismatched ones before the partner does.
Order status questions
Customer service can ask whether a retailer PO arrived and where it stands, answered from SyteLine and EDI data on your own servers.
Mapping gap drafts
It can list partner item numbers or store codes with no match and draft the cross reference entries for review.
When something else fits better
- Other EDI providers and VANs can work with SyteLine through ION or flat files; choose based on your partners' requirements and your volume.
- A web portal entry for one or two retailers is cheaper than full EDI at low volume.
- Infor's own EDI offerings, if licensed, may reduce vendors at the cost of retailer-specific compliance help.
Frequently asked questions
Why does SPS use ION?
ION is Infor's integration layer, and BODs are its standard XML messages. Using them gives SPS a supported way to exchange orders, shipments and invoices without custom code inside SyteLine.
Does it work with an on-prem SyteLine?
SPS lists SyteLine on its Infor partner page and ION can be installed on-prem, but the network path between SPS and your ION is a design item. Ask SPS to describe it for your setup.
Which Infor ERPs are covered?
SPS's integration is listed for SyteLine, LN, M3 and VISUAL. Message content and mapping effort differ by ERP, so treat each as its own project with its own testing.
How can AI help with EDI?
A private layer can read EDI logs and ERP data to triage rejections, prevent chargebacks and answer order questions in plain language. It is read-only by default and proposes fixes that a person approves.
