Autodesk Vault Private AI Layer Blueprint Generator

This generator creates an architecture plan for a private AI assistant on an on-prem Autodesk Vault. It uses the Vault API and, where useful, the Job Processor for content extraction.

Autodesk Vault Private AI Layer Blueprint Generator

1. Context

Harbor Marine Fabrication runs Autodesk Vault Professional 2024 with ADMS on SQL Server Standard (On-prem server). 90 named users, 2 site(s). Target go-live: 2027-05-31.

Use cases: Property search, where-used, change order status, question answering over released PDFs.

Must stay on site: Customer drawings, vessel designs under contract, internal cost properties.

2. Components

ComponentDesign for Vault 2024Notes
Data access pathVault web services client libraries (document, item, property and change order services)Direct database reads are not supported
Retrieval indexLocal index fed by Job Processor jobs or a worker: text plus folder, category, lifecycle state and revisionTriggered on check-in and state change

Identity and permissionsVault credentials or Windows authentication per user; roles, folder ACLs and state security applied by VaultRe-check by API read

3. Security controls mapped to your inputs

Hosting: On-prem server, with no outbound route from the model host.

For Customer drawings, vessel designs under contract, internal cost properties.: the extraction identity is limited to released data, chunks carry folder and state, and anything whose rules cannot be mirrored is excluded.

Phases 1 and 2 are read-only. Phase 3 actions, such as drafting a change order, are proposed to the user and run under their identity.

4. Rollout

PhaseScopeExit criteria
1: Read-onlyProperty search, where-used, document Q and AAccuracy on an agreed question set
2: DraftsChange order and revision summariesReviewer acceptance
3: Approved actionsSupported lifecycle or change order actions with approvalAudit and rollback verified

5. Open questions for IT

1. Which vaults and filestores are in scope? 2. Is the Job Processor stable and who owns it? 3. Which authentication mode do users use? 4. Which lifecycle states count as released? 5. Where can the GPU host sit relative to ADMS?

Plan review for your Vault

Optional: short written review of your plan, with notes on Job Processor and permissions.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use it

Pick your Vault release, SQL Server edition and hosting, then describe your use cases and the data that must stay in-house. The plan includes components, controls mapped to your answers, a rollout table and open questions for your IT team.

The method behind it

All reads go through the Vault server, either as the user or with filtered results from a limited extraction identity. Lifecycle state, folder and revision travel with each indexed chunk, so the assistant can say whether a document is released. The model is open-weight and local.

Reading the plan

The Job Processor row matters: it gives you queueing and retries for extraction, but custom jobs need care to keep it stable. Many teams keep parsing in a separate worker. The rollout table keeps actions out of the first two phases.

Common mistakes

Querying the database for convenience, extracting as an administrator without storing state and folder, and promising CAD geometry understanding. The assistant works from properties and document text.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this work with Vault Basic or Workgroup?

API and Job Processor availability differ by edition. Confirm what your edition supports before relying on them, since the plan assumes Professional capabilities.

Can I use Autodesk's cloud services instead?

If your policy allows cloud and the features cover your questions, that can be simpler. This plan is for sites that must keep data and models on their own network.

Which model size is needed?

For property search and document Q and A, a 14B to 32B class open-weight model on one 24 to 48 GB GPU is a common starting point. Test with your own questions.

How is access handled?

Through Vault itself: roles, folder ACLs and lifecycle state security. The assistant calls as the user or filters strictly, then re-checks before showing content.

Netray can review your generated plan against your Vault setup. The tool is free and complete without that.
