China CCC Certification Readiness Assessment

China Compulsory Certification, the CCC mark, is required for listed product categories sold, imported or used in China. This ten-question readiness check helps product and compliance teams see what is missing before they approach a certification body.

0 of 10 answered0%

1. Have you confirmed whether your product falls under the current CCC product catalogue?

The catalogue is set by the Chinese market regulator. Products are matched by category and sometimes by HS code and technical features.

2. Do you know which Chinese national standards (GB) apply to your product?

3. Does the product design already meet the GB requirements, including any China-specific differences from IEC or EN standards?

4. Do you have an appointed certification body and an agreed application plan?

5. Are samples and key components prepared for type testing at a designated laboratory?

6. Do critical components that need their own CCC certificate have valid certificates?

Some products require safety-critical parts, such as power supplies or cables, to carry their own approvals.

7. Is the manufacturing site ready for an initial factory inspection?

Inspection covers quality assurance capability, product consistency and production control.

8. Do you have a plan for production conformity and routine tests once certified?

9. Are the CCC mark, model naming and labelling plan ready for production?

10. Is there a change control process to notify the certification body of design, component or site changes?

How to use the assessment

Answer each question for one product family at one manufacturing site. The score shows how prepared you are across scope, standards, testing, component certificates, factory inspection, labelling and change control. Use the recommendations as an action list and re-run it after each milestone. Export the result to share with engineering, quality and your certification body.

How CCC works in outline

The process generally involves application to a designated certification body, type testing at a designated laboratory, an initial factory inspection, evaluation and certificate issue, and then follow-up surveillance. Products must carry the CCC mark and the certificate must be kept valid. Rules, catalogues and some exemptions have been updated over time, including changes to the product list, so confirm current requirements with a certification body or the official regulator before committing to a plan.

Typical pitfalls

Delays usually come from the same causes. They are cheap to avoid when they are known up front.

  • Assuming a CE, UL or IEC report replaces GB testing
  • Changing a critical component after type testing without notifying the certification body
  • Treating the factory inspection as a paperwork task instead of a process audit
  • Printing labels before the certificate scope and model names are final
  • Selling to China via a distributor without clarifying who holds the certificate

Recording CCC data in the ERP

Hold certificate number, product scope, factory, expiry and surveillance dates as attributes on the item or product family. In SAP this can be a classification or certificate management object, in Infor SyteLine or Epicor a user-defined field on the item. Add a check at shipment or customs documentation so a product with an expired or missing certificate is flagged before it leaves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which products need a CCC mark?

Products in the regulator's CCC catalogue, which has covered categories such as many electrical appliances, wires and cables, certain auto parts and some toys. The list changes, so check the current catalogue or ask a certification body about your exact product.

Can I use my CE or UL test report?

Generally no. CCC requires testing to Chinese national standards at a designated laboratory. Existing reports can help your design preparation or may be considered in limited cases, but plan on dedicated GB testing unless the certification body says otherwise in writing.

How long does CCC certification take?

It depends on product category, test queue and factory readiness. Plan for several months from application to certificate and avoid committing launch dates before the certification body gives you a timeline. Delays in samples or factory inspection are the most common cause.

Does CCC apply to parts I export to a Chinese manufacturer?

Not usually for components used inside a finished product, but the finished product may need CCC and the Chinese assembler may require components to have particular approvals. Ask your customer who holds responsibility and which component certificates they expect.

If certificate numbers and expiries live outside your ERP, Netray can help you add a validation step at item release and shipment so uncertified products are not sent to China.
