Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.
How to use it
Enter the supplier unit price in CNY, the order quantity and the exchange rate you expect to pay. Add total freight for the shipment, an insurance percentage, your duty rate and brokerage fees. The result is landed cost per unit, plus the multiple of goods value so you can compare suppliers on the same basis.
The formula
Goods value is price times quantity divided by the CNY per USD rate. Insurance is applied to goods plus freight, giving the CIF value. Duty is the duty rate times CIF, and landed cost is CIF plus duty and fees. Import VAT or GST is usually recoverable and is left out; add it if it is a cost in your case.
- Goods = price x qty / rate
- CIF = goods + freight + insurance
- Duty = CIF x duty rate
- Landed = CIF + duty + fees
Common mistakes
Quotes that include Chinese VAT overstate cost for exporters who get a refund, so confirm the price basis. Freight per unit changes with quantity, so rerun for each order size. Do not forget additional duties that apply to certain origins and products, and do not use a spot rate for a payment that will settle in 60 days; use the forward or budget rate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it include import VAT?
No. Import VAT or GST is usually recoverable, so it is excluded. Add it to fees if your business cannot recover it.
Which exchange rate should I use?
Use the rate you expect at payment, often a budget or forward rate. The chart shows how landed cost changes from 6 to 8 CNY per USD.
Is duty on FOB or CIF?
It differs by country. Many assess on CIF, others on FOB or transaction value. Check with your broker and adjust.
Can I compare two suppliers?
Run it twice with each quote and compare the landed cost per unit, not the quoted price.
Netray can discuss feeding landed cost logic into your ERP purchasing views so buyers compare suppliers on the same basis.
