How to use this reference
Type a value such as Reserved physical or Delivered into the search box to see which object it belongs to. When building a report, data entity filter or Power BI measure, use the Object and Field columns to confirm you are filtering on the right field. A common error is filtering on document status when the question is about order status, which gives different answers for partially delivered orders.
- Order status describes the order header lifecycle.
- Document status shows the most recent posted document.
- Inventory transaction status shows the stock level reality.
Status versus document status
Status moves forward when quantities are posted. For a sales order it goes from Open order to Delivered when the packing slip covers all quantity, then to Invoiced. Document status simply records the last document type posted, so an order can be Open order with a document status of Packing slip when only part of the quantity shipped. Reports that need open backlog should look at remaining quantity on the lines, not only at either status.
Inventory transaction statuses
The inventory transaction table is where reservations live. Reserved ordered means the system reserved against supply that has not arrived. Reserved physical means stock is on hand. Picked and Deducted show warehouse and posting progress. Receipt statuses run from Ordered through Arrived, Registered and Received to Purchased. When on-hand looks wrong, filter the inventory transactions for the item and compare these statuses to the documents posted.
Developer and reporting notes
These values are base enums, and the stored integer values differ from the labels, so do not hardcode numbers. In X++ use the enum name such as SalesStatus::Invoiced, and in OData filters use the symbol name that the entity metadata exposes. Test filters in a sandbox because custom extensions can add values.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between status and document status on a sales order?
Status is the lifecycle of the order itself, such as Open order, Delivered or Invoiced. Document status records the most recent document posted for it, such as Confirmation, Pick list, Packing slip or Invoice. They often differ when only part of an order has shipped.
What does Reserved ordered mean in D365?
It means the quantity is reserved against expected incoming supply, such as a purchase order or production order, rather than stock physically on hand. Reserved physical means the reservation is against stock that is on hand in the warehouse.
Why is my purchase order Open order but fully received?
Status moves to Received only when product receipts cover all line quantity, and to Invoiced when invoices cover it. Over-delivery tolerances, canceled remainder quantities or unposted receipts can leave the header open. Check line quantities remaining and posted documents.
Can I add my own status values?
Base enums can be extended through the extension model, and ISVs often do. That is why you should confirm the value list in your own environment before relying on this table for filters or integrations.
If your teams keep asking what is open, late or reserved across orders, Netray can help set up read-only questions over your D365 data that apply these status rules consistently.
