Dynamics NAV Enhancement Plan and License Cost Calculator
This calculator compares two paths for a Dynamics NAV perpetual licence owner: keep paying the enhancement plan every year, or let it lapse and pay to reinstate when you need rights to newer versions such as Business Central on-premises. Every price is an input, so use the figures your partner quotes.
Your numbers
List value of the licences under the plan, from your partner
Commonly cited BREP rate was about 16 percent of covered list price; confirm the current rate with your partner
Percent of missed plan fees charged, as quoted by your partner
Any additional fee as a percent of licence list value
Your results
All prices and rates are your inputs. Current enhancement plan and reinstatement terms come from your Microsoft partner; this tool does not state any current Microsoft price.

How to use it
Enter the list value of the licences the plan covers and the annual rate. The Business Ready Enhancement Plan is commonly cited at about 16 percent of the covered licence list price per year, but confirm today's rate and the name of the current programme with your partner. Enter how many years you have lapsed, the share of missed fees charged to reinstate and any extra penalty. Add yearly partner support and your upgrade project estimate, then move the years slider to see when the paths cross.
The formulas
Annual plan = licence list value x plan rate. Stay current = (annual plan + partner support) x years. Reinstate = annual plan x years lapsed x back-fee percent + licence list value x penalty percent. Lapse then upgrade = reinstate + upgrade project + partner support x years. The tool also shows a like-for-like view that adds the upgrade project to the stay-current path, because you will still pay for an upgrade project if you stay current; the plan covers licence rights, not the partner's work.
- The lapse path assumes you reinstate once, only to get upgrade rights
- Add forward plan fees to the lapse path if you will stay on the plan afterwards
- Partner support is the same on both paths
Worked example
With $60,000 covered list value at 16 percent, the plan is $9,600 a year. Over 5 years with $9,000 partner support, staying current costs $93,000, or $138,000 including a $45,000 upgrade. Lapsed for 2 years with 100 percent back fees, reinstatement costs $19,200, so the lapse path costs $19,200 + $45,000 + $45,000 = $109,200. On these inputs lapsing looks $28,800 cheaper like for like, but only if reinstatement terms really allow it; with a penalty or loss of upgrade rights the answer reverses.
Why a current plan matters
A current plan is what lets your partner issue a licence for a newer version, which you need before a technical upgrade to BC14 and beyond. It has also been the route to tax and regulatory updates for your version. Do not assume any past amnesty or transition offer is still available. Get written reinstatement terms from your partner before choosing the lapse path.
Frequently Asked Questions
What did the Dynamics NAV enhancement plan cost?
The Business Ready Enhancement Plan is commonly cited at about 16 percent of the list price of the covered licences per year. Terms and programme names have changed over time, so the current rate, coverage and any reinstatement fees must come from your Microsoft partner. Enter their figures into this calculator.
What happens if my NAV enhancement plan lapsed?
Without a current plan you generally lose rights to newer versions, so you cannot simply get a licence for Business Central on-premises. Reinstating typically means paying missed fees and sometimes a penalty. The exact terms depend on Microsoft's current policy and your partner, so get them in writing.
Is there a Dynamics NAV price calculator for new licences?
NAV is no longer sold to new customers; Business Central replaced it. For existing NAV owners, the costs that matter are the enhancement plan, partner support and the upgrade project, which this calculator models with your inputs. Business Central on-premises and SaaS licensing are priced separately by Microsoft and partners.
Do I need a current plan to upgrade NAV to Business Central?
You need licence rights to the target version. For perpetual NAV licences these have come from a current enhancement plan or from a licence transition offer through your partner. Confirm which applies to you before planning the technical upgrade, because the licence file is required to run the newer version.
