Hydraulic Power Unit Acceptance Test Record Template

A hydraulic power unit usually ships with a test record that proves relief setting, flow, temperature and cleanliness before it leaves the shop. This template gives you a clean, consistent format that exports to PDF or Word.

Observations and result

Overall result: Accepted

Observations: No external leakage at rated pressure. Oil temperature stabilized below 125 F after 60 minutes at rated flow. Minor noise at relief valve crack point noted and acceptable.

Approvals

Test technician / Date
Quality engineer / Date
Customer witness / Date

Starting point only. Add pressure hold tests, proof test values and acceptance limits from your customer specification, applicable standards and the component maker's documents. Calibrated gauge IDs and calibration due dates should be recorded alongside results. Not a substitute for a contractual test procedure.

Test records tied to serial numbers

Optional: we can show how test and inspection records can be attached to serial and work order data in your ERP.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use it

Fill the unit data and customer details first, then print or export the document and complete the measured columns during the test. The pre-test table confirms rotation, fluid level, strainer position and baseline cleanliness before the first start. The performance table records relief setting, flow at rated pressure, motor current, case drain, temperature rise, sound and leakage. Edit the requirement column to your customer specification, then add the observations and sign-off.

  • Record calibrated gauge IDs with the results
  • Keep the same test fluid grade as will be used in service
  • Run to thermal stability before recording temperature
  • Attach the cleanliness report to the record

What a test should prove

A good acceptance test confirms that the unit delivers rated flow at rated pressure, that the relief valve protects the circuit at the set pressure, that the motor is not overloaded, that heat is controlled and that the unit is leak-free and clean. For safety-critical or code-governed systems, add a proof pressure test at the multiple the specification demands, a hold period, and documentation by a competent person. The customer specification and component maker data always override this generic form.

Reading results

Flow below rated at rated pressure usually points to pump wear, wrong rotation speed, a loose compensator or an internal bypass. High case-drain flow indicates pump wear. Fast temperature rise points to excess pressure drop, relief valve bypass or an undersized cooler. Dirty fluid after test means flushing was incomplete, and the sample should be retaken after another filter pass before shipment. Recording measured values rather than only pass or fail lets you compare the unit with its first-day baseline during later service.

Common mistakes

Common test problems include setting the relief valve too close to working pressure, testing with cold oil that hides viscosity-related issues, using an uncalibrated gauge, and recording a pass without a measurement. Another is forgetting to include the test fluid in the record, which becomes a warranty issue if the customer later uses another fluid. Keep the record with the serial number in your quality or ERP system for traceability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a factory or site acceptance test form?

It works for either. Edit the requirement column and header to match whether you test at the shop (FAT) or after installation (SAT), and add customer-specific steps.

What proof pressure should I use?

Use the value in your specification, the applicable code or the component maker's rating. Many specifications call for 1.25 to 1.5 times working pressure, but this template does not set one for you.

Which cleanliness code should I require?

It depends on components. Servo valves often need ISO 4406 codes near 16/14/11, general industrial systems around 18/16/13 or 19/17/14. Follow the most sensitive component's maker requirement.

Can I add measured data lines?

Yes. Export to Word and add rows, or use the worksheet tools to capture readings. Keep a copy of the raw data with the signed report.

Netray can link test records to serial numbers and work orders inside your ERP so a private assistant can answer what was tested on any unit.
