Manufacturing Daily Production Report Format (Machine Production Report Worksheet)

This is a manufacturing daily production report format you can fill online and export to Excel or PDF. One row per machine, shift and part records plan, good quantity, scrap, downtime and labor, and the sheet calculates yield, attainment and scrap rate.

Add one row per machine, shift and part. Record scrap at the point it is found and give each downtime event a reason on a separate log so the minutes can be analyzed. Yield and attainment are calculated for you.

How to make a daily production report

Decide the unit of reporting first: usually one row per machine per shift per part number. Record the planned quantity from the schedule, the good quantity from counters or the traveler, the scrap quantity, downtime minutes and the labor hours charged. Fill the report at the end of every shift while the supervisor still remembers the causes. A short and consistent report that is filled every day is more useful than a detailed report that is skipped.

  • One row per machine, shift and part
  • Take quantities from counters, not memory
  • Fill it at shift end, not next morning
  • Keep the same columns every day so trends are comparable

What the calculated columns mean

Yield is good quantity divided by good plus scrap, so it measures how much of what you made was usable. Plan attainment is good quantity divided by planned quantity and shows whether the schedule was met. The summary adds scrap rate, good units per labor hour and average downtime per line. These are simple production KPIs; they are not OEE, which also needs run time and ideal cycle time, but they are enough to see which machine and shift needs attention.

Reading the example

In the example, the press produced 842 good pieces against 900 planned with 31 scrapped and 70 minutes of downtime, so it explains most of the shortfall. The welder reached only 85% of plan with 48 minutes of downtime and four scrapped parts. Overall attainment is about 92% and scrap rate is under 3%. A supervisor can see within a minute which two machines to look at, and then open the downtime log for causes.

Pulling the same fields from ERP

Every field in this report normally exists in the ERP already: planned quantity from the work order or schedule, good and scrap quantity from production reporting, labor from time and attendance, and downtime from MES or a manual log. If operators report completions in the ERP, the daily report can be a query rather than a spreadsheet. Check that scrap is reported with a reason code and that quantities are posted on the same shift boundary as the report.

  • Match report cut-off times to ERP posting times
  • Use scrap reason codes, not free text
  • Reconcile the report with ERP completions weekly

Frequently Asked Questions

What should a daily production report include?

Date, shift, machine or line, part number, planned quantity, good quantity, scrap quantity, downtime minutes with reasons, and labor hours. Add the supervisor name and comments. Keep it short enough to be filled every shift.

How do I calculate production yield?

Divide good units by the total units produced, which is good plus scrap, and multiply by 100. For example 204 good and 6 scrap gives about 97.1% yield. Rework can be tracked separately if it is significant.

Is this the same as OEE?

No. Attainment and yield are simpler measures. OEE multiplies availability, performance and quality and needs run time and ideal cycle time. You can start with this report and add those fields when you are ready to measure OEE.

Can I export the report to Excel?

Yes. Edit the rows online and export to Excel, CSV or PDF. The exported Excel keeps the table so you can add more days or paste it into your own workbook.

If your completions, scrap and labor are already in an ERP, Netray can set up a private AI layer on your servers that produces this report from live data and answers shift questions in plain English. The worksheet above works without it.
