Molding Shift Production Report Template
A shift report is how a molding department keeps information from disappearing at the shift change. This template covers press output, downtime, quality, material and safety, and ends with a handover section. Fill it in and export to PDF or Word.

Add rows to the press output table in the exported file to match the number of presses you run. Keep the narrative short: what stopped, what is on hold and what the next shift must do first.
Automate the shift report from machine data
Optional: explore pulling counts and downtime from your presses and ERP into this report.
Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.
How to use the report
Complete the header and the press table before the end of the shift, using counts from the press monitor or the count sheet. Then write short notes on downtime, quality holds, material shortages and safety. The most valuable part is the handover: list what the next shift must do first and what it should watch. Review both signatures at the shift change meeting, not afterwards.
- Fill it during the shift, not from memory
- Quote press numbers and mold IDs
- Mark holds and containment clearly
- Review it face to face at handover
What to report and what to skip
Report events that change what the next shift does: downtime over a threshold you set, mold changes that ran over, quality holds, material shortages, equipment alarms and anything that touches safety. Skip routine running. A report that lists every small stop will not be read. Use the same wording each shift so patterns appear when you look back over a month.
Using the report for improvement
Collect a month of reports and look for repeats. The same press with the same hot runner fault, or the same material shortage on the same day of the week, is a signal for maintenance or planning. Totals from the press table feed simple measures such as good parts per press, reject share and downtime minutes. These are inputs for OEE, but they are only as good as the counts behind them.
- Look for repeating presses and molds
- Compare planned and actual running presses
- Feed downtime reasons into a Pareto
Common mistakes
Vague notes such as machine problem do not help the next shift. Name the press, zone, alarm or defect. Another mistake is skipping the safety section when nothing happened. A short statement of none observed shows it was checked. Finally, reports left in a drawer defeat the purpose, so store them where planning and quality can find them.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long should a shift report be?
One page is ideal. The press table and a few short notes are enough. If it takes more than ten minutes to complete, it will be skipped under pressure.
Who should read the report?
The incoming supervisor first, then production management, maintenance and quality. Decide who gets a copy and make that routine.
Can this feed OEE?
It gives you good parts, rejects and downtime minutes, which are core inputs. For a proper OEE you also need planned time and ideal cycle time per mold.
Should operators fill it in?
Supervisors usually own the narrative, while operators or setters supply counts and downtime reasons. Clear ownership prevents duplicate or missing entries.
If your presses report counts to an MES or ERP, we can look at generating this report from live data so supervisors only add the narrative.
