Schedule Adherence Tracking Worksheet
Schedule adherence shows whether the plan the floor was given is the plan it delivered. This worksheet compares planned and actual units each day and records the cause of every miss.
| Date | Line / work center | Planned units | Actual units | Gap | Attainment | Main miss cause | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
-25 | 94.8% | ||||||
0 | 100% | ||||||
-50 | 89.6% | ||||||
20 | 100% | ||||||
-70 | 85.4% |
Daily attainment caps at 100 percent so overproduction on one day cannot hide a miss on another. Volume attainment nets them out; track both.

How to use it
Enter one row per day per line or work center, with planned units from the frozen schedule and actual units from the count or ERP completions. Choose a main miss cause for any day below plan. The sheet computes the gap, daily attainment and weekly totals. Export to Excel and append each week to build a trend you can chart.
Two ways to measure
Volume attainment is total actual divided by total planned. Daily attainment caps each day at 100 percent, then averages. The capped measure is stricter, because producing extra on Tuesday does not make up for missing Monday if the parts were needed Monday. Use the frozen schedule at the start of the day as the plan, not a schedule revised afterwards.
- Freeze the plan before measuring.
- Report both volume and capped daily attainment.
- Count only good units as actual.
Using the causes
After four weeks, count the days by cause. A Pareto of the causes tells you whether to spend time on supplier delivery, maintenance, staffing or the scheduling rules themselves. If Planning is a top cause, the loads are probably unrealistic, which is a scheduling fix, not a floor fix.
Common mistakes
Do not change the plan after the fact to make the number look better. Do not count units that failed inspection. And avoid targeting 100 percent every day; a healthy target is usually in the low to mid 90s and rises as the causes are removed.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good schedule adherence?
It depends on the process. Many discrete plants aim for the 90s, and stable repetitive lines can do better. The trend and the causes matter more than a single benchmark.
Should I measure by units or by hours?
Hours or standard hours are better when jobs differ in size, because units would treat a big part and a small part the same. Use units only for similar items.
Why cap daily attainment at 100 percent?
To stop overproduction hiding misses on other days. It reflects on-time delivery to the next process more fairly.
How is this different from OEE?
OEE measures machine effectiveness (availability, performance, quality). Adherence measures delivery of the plan, which also depends on planning quality and material.
If you want attainment calculated automatically from frozen schedules and ERP completions, we can build that as a read-only report.
