SYSPRO BOM Material Cost Rollup Worksheet
This worksheet rebuilds a bill of material cost line by line so you can compare it with what your ERP reports. It is built for SYSPRO users but works for any costed BOM. Fill in components, quantities, scrap and unit cost, then export to Excel.
| Component stock code | Stocking UoM | Qty per parent | Scrap allowance % (%) | Unit cost | Extended cost | |

R 23 |
Enter component costs in the same currency and costing basis (standard or last cost) as the figure you are checking. Compare the total with the material cost SYSPRO shows for the parent after your cost rollup.
Automate BOM cost checks from your ERP data
Optional: we can read your BOM and cost tables and flag lines that look wrong, read only.
Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.
How to use it
List each component from the parent's bill of material, with the quantity per parent in the stocking unit of measure. Add a scrap allowance if the BOM or routing carries one. Enter the unit cost you want to test, usually the current standard or the last purchase cost. The sheet multiplies quantity, scrap and cost, and totals the lines. Compare the total with the material cost your ERP shows after its cost rollup for that parent.
The method behind it
Extended cost is quantity per parent times one plus the scrap percentage, times unit cost. This is the usual way scrap is treated when the BOM quantity is the net quantity and the plant loses a known percentage. If your BOM already includes scrap in the quantity, set scrap to zero to avoid counting it twice. Labour, overhead and subcontract costs sit outside this sheet, so add them separately when you check a full product cost.
- Net quantity plus scrap is the gross quantity issued
- Use one costing basis for all lines
- Check units of measure first, they cause most mismatches
Common mistakes
The biggest source of difference is unit of measure: a component bought in metres but stocked in millimetres, or a cost per hundred read as a cost per unit. The second is mixing costing bases, such as standard cost for some lines and last cost for others. Phantom or sub-assembly lines also cause confusion, because a costed sub-assembly should appear once at its own rolled up cost, not again through its components.
- Do not list a sub-assembly and its components together
- Remember effective dates on BOM lines
- Round at the end, not on each line
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this replace the SYSPRO cost rollup?
No. It is a quick independent check on the material part of a product cost. Use it to confirm that quantities, scrap and unit costs behave as you expect before you rely on the ERP rollup for pricing or stock valuation.
How should I treat scrap that is already in the BOM?
If the BOM quantity already includes a scrap or yield allowance, enter zero in the scrap column. Entering it again would inflate the cost. Check how your BOM and routing define scrap before you choose.
Can I use another currency?
The sheet shows amounts with an R prefix for rand, but the arithmetic is currency neutral. Enter all costs in one currency and read the totals in that currency. Convert separately if you buy in foreign currency.
How many lines can I add?
You can add as many rows as you need in the browser. For very large bills, export to Excel and continue there, or split the product into sub-assemblies and cost each one separately.
If your costs in the ERP regularly disagree with the shop floor view, we can build a read-only check that compares BOM, routing and cost data for you.
