SYSPRO Report Writer, Reporting Services and Crystal: Options and Fixes

Short answer
SYSPRO offers several reporting routes: built-in operational reports, the Report Writer for custom listings, SYSPRO Reporting Services (SRS, built on SQL Server Reporting Services) for formatted documents, and Crystal Reports in some older and customised setups. When SRS printing or print preview fails, check the report server service, its configured URL and credentials, and the permissions of the SYSPRO service account first.
Applies to: SYSPRO 7 and 8 with SQL Server Reporting Services. Details of SRS setup vary by release and by whether the report server is on the same machine.
How to troubleshoot an SRS print or print preview failure
- 1Try the same document on another workstation and another user. A failure everywhere points to the server; a single machine points to the client or printer.
- 2On the report server, confirm the SQL Server Reporting Services service is running and the report server web page opens in a browser.
- 3In the SYSPRO reporting setup, check the configured report server URL and the folder where SYSPRO's reports are deployed. A changed server name or certificate often breaks this.
- 4Verify the credentials SYSPRO uses to reach the report server and that the account has browse and run rights on the report folder.
- 5Re-deploy or refresh the SYSPRO report definitions after an upgrade or patch, because missing or old report files cause blank or failed output.
- 6Check printer mapping and default printer for the user session, especially on terminal servers, and test with a PDF output to separate printer faults from report faults.
Which reporting tool to use
Use the standard SYSPRO reports first. Many questions are answered by an existing inquiry or report with its filters. The Report Writer is for tabular listings across SYSPRO data where you want selected fields without developing a full report.
Use SRS when you need formatted business documents such as invoices, purchase orders or statements, and when you want to use SQL Server Reporting Services skills. Use Crystal only where you already have Crystal investments; for new work, most teams prefer SSRS or a BI tool reading the database directly.
Why SRS print fails
SRS depends on a chain: SYSPRO client, application server, SQL Server Reporting Services, report definitions and the printer. A break at any link looks the same to the user: an error, a blank preview, or a hang. Work through the chain from the report server toward the printer.
The most common causes are an unreachable report server URL after a server rename, expired or changed service account passwords, a browser or viewer component blocked on the client, and permissions on the report folder. After an upgrade, the second most common cause is report definitions not being refreshed.
Reading the data directly
For analytical reporting, many teams skip report tools and query SYSPRO's SQL Server tables read-only, or point a BI tool at a reporting copy. This keeps heavy reports away from the transaction database and avoids the dependence on SRS.
Do it with a read-only SQL login, never with the SYSPRO operator account, and keep table names in views so a schema change in an upgrade does not break every report.

Common pitfalls
- !Fixing the printer when the report server is the real fault.
- !Using the interactive operator account as the report server credential, so a password change breaks printing.
- !Forgetting to redeploy reports after an upgrade.
- !Running heavy custom reports against the live transaction database during peak hours.
- !Testing only on the server session and not from a real user's terminal server session.
How an ERP-grounded AI assistant handles this
Netray adds a private AI layer to the SYSPRO you already run, including on-prem installs where the SQL Server and application server never leave your network. ERPray answers questions over live SYSPRO data with read-only SQL or e.net queries it shows you, under the operator's own SYSPRO security, so a planner or accountant can ask the question in plain language and see exactly which tables or business objects produced the answer. Any write-back, such as posting a transaction, goes through a human approval step. The model is open-weight and runs on your own GPUs, so company data is not sent to a public AI service.
Frequently asked questions
What is SYSPRO Reporting Services?
SYSPRO Reporting Services (SRS) is SYSPRO's formatted reporting layer, built on Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services. It produces documents such as invoices and statements from SYSPRO data, so its health depends on the report server being reachable and correctly configured.
Is SYSPRO Crystal Reports still used?
Some installations still use Crystal for older or customised documents. New work is more commonly done with SRS or direct SQL reporting. If you rely on Crystal, plan for the runtime installed on clients and for migration over time.
Why does print preview show nothing?
Usually the report server cannot be reached, the credentials lack rights on the report folder, or the report definitions are missing after an upgrade. Test a PDF output and browse to the report server URL to see where the chain breaks.
Can I report on SYSPRO data without the Report Writer?
Yes. A read-only SQL login against the SQL Server database, preferably on a reporting copy, lets BI tools or SQL queries read the data. Keep access read-only and respect your security policy.

SYSPRO SQL Query for Inventory On Hand by Warehouse
SYSPRO runs on SQL Server with one database per company, typically named like SysproCompanyA, and inventory is split between InvMaster for part-level data and InvWarehouse for quantities per warehouse. Join them on StockCode, filter, and read the quantity columns. Use a read-only login, never write to SYSPRO tables directly, and prefer e.net business objects for any change.
Error fixSYSPRO Error 67259 and Client Runtime Errors: How to Triage
Numbered SYSPRO errors and client runtime errors are best solved by the message text and the context, not the number alone. We could not confirm an official meaning for 67259 and will not guess one; instead, capture the full message and the program that raised it, check whether it reproduces for other users and companies, review logs on the application server and database, and open a case with those facts.
How-toSYSPRO 8: What Is E-Invoice, the 8 Client, and GL Integration
An e-invoice is a structured, machine-readable invoice (usually XML) that is validated by a tax authority or exchanged through a network instead of being emailed as a PDF. SYSPRO 8 produces the underlying invoice data; the country-specific e-invoice format and submission usually come from a localisation or partner component, so confirm what your country needs with your SYSPRO partner. GL integration is still configured per module in the setup options, and the SYSPRO 8 client is a managed desktop install that talks to the application server.
AdvancedSYSPRO Debit Note Table: Finding AP and AR Transaction Tables
SYSPRO stores supplier invoices and related documents in the Accounts Payable tables and customer documents in the Accounts Receivable tables, with the SQL Server names prefixed by module such as Ap and Ar (for example ApSupplier, ApInvoice, ArCustomer). We cannot confirm one dedicated debit note table across releases, so identify yours by querying the catalog and testing with a known document.
How-toSYSPRO reporting API: e.net, SRS server-side reporting, Crystal Reports and SRS preview problems
SYSPRO gives you three reporting routes: the e.net Solutions business object API (XML in, XML out) for programmatic data, SYSPRO Reporting Services (SRS) for designed reports run on the server, and Crystal-based or SQL-based custom reports. If the SRS preview does not work, check the services, the runtime and bitness, the SQL permissions and the client and server versions in that order.
Error fixError validating SYSPRO online profile: what it means and how to fix it
A profile validation error means the SYSPRO client or service could not confirm the operator, company, licence or database connection it was handed at logon. Check the service and licence first, then the operator and company, then the database and disk, in that order. Storage errors are usually full disks, a locked SQL file or a tempdb problem rather than a SYSPRO bug.
