How NetSuite Mobile Warehouse Management connects to Oracle NetSuite
Native SuiteApp (SCM Mobile first, then the WMS SuiteApp)
The mobile app runs on handheld devices and works against your NetSuite account directly. Receiving, putaway, picking and counts create the same item receipts, fulfillments and inventory counts that desktop users would create.
Configuration through NetSuite roles, locations and bins
Behavior is driven by location settings, bin management, item setup and role permissions in NetSuite, so most tuning is configuration rather than integration code.
What data moves
| From | To | Data | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| NetSuite | Handheld | Open purchase orders, transfer orders and pick tasks for a location | User opens a receiving or picking task |
| Handheld | NetSuite | Item receipts and putaway bin assignments | Scan confirmed during receiving and putaway |
| Handheld | NetSuite | Picked quantities and fulfillment updates | Pick or pack completed |
| Handheld | NetSuite | Cycle count results and variances | Count submitted for a bin or item |
Setting it up
- 1Install SCM MobileInstall the SCM Mobile SuiteApp first. The WMS SuiteApp depends on it.
- 2Install the WMS SuiteAppInstall the Mobile Warehouse Management SuiteApp and enable it for the target locations.
- 3Enable bins and set up locationsTurn on bin management for the warehouse locations, create bins, and set the use-bins flag on the items that will be stored in them.
- 4Assign roles and permissionsCreate warehouse roles with access to the mobile app, item receipts, fulfillments and inventory counts, and limit them to the right locations.
- 5Label bins and itemsPrint barcode labels for bins and make sure item barcodes (UPC or an item alias) resolve to the right NetSuite item.
- 6Pilot on one locationRun receiving, putaway, pick and cycle count with a small crew before rolling out to other locations.
What usually breaks
- !Installing the WMS SuiteApp before SCM Mobile, or leaving it out of the production account after sandbox testing.
- !Items without bin assignments or with the wrong use-bins setting cause scans to be rejected or inventory to land in a default bin.
- !Barcodes that map to more than one item, or units of measure that differ between purchase and stock units, produce wrong receipt quantities.
- !Lot and serial numbered items require capture at scan time; skipping it blocks posting or breaks traceability.
- !Role permissions that are too narrow show up as vague errors on the handheld rather than clear permission messages.
- !Wi-Fi dead zones in racking aisles stall scans, so survey coverage before go live.
A private AI layer across both systems
Count variance review
After a cycle count, an assistant reads the variances with recent receipts, picks and adjustments for that bin and proposes likely causes for a supervisor to approve before posting.
Open task and exception questions
Ask in plain language which purchase orders are overdue for receipt or which pick tasks are aging, with read-only queries against NetSuite and the query visible.
Setup validation
Scan item and bin setup for missing barcodes, missing bin assignments and inconsistent units, and list fixes for an administrator to apply.

When something else fits better
- A WMS built for NetSuite such as RF-SMART offers deeper pick strategies, packing and replenishment if the native flows are too basic.
- A full third-party WMS makes sense for multi-site, high-volume or automation-heavy warehouses, at the cost of an integration to maintain.
- For very small operations, desktop receiving with printed labels may be enough without handhelds.
Frequently asked questions
What do I install first?
Install SCM Mobile first and then the Mobile Warehouse Management SuiteApp. The WMS app builds on the SCM Mobile framework, so reversing the order or skipping the base app is a common cause of missing mobile screens.
What can it do on a handheld?
Oracle describes receiving, putaway, picking and cycle counts on mobile devices. Check the current NetSuite documentation for the exact release you run, because supported transactions and device options change between releases.
Does it need a separate integration?
No. It is a native SuiteApp, so scans write directly to NetSuite records. That removes sync lag and mapping, but you inherit NetSuite's configuration limits, so test your pick and putaway process before deciding it is enough.
