RF-SMART SummitIT and Oracle NetSuite: Label and Document Printing

SummitIT is RF-SMART's printing add-on for printing labels and documents directly from NetSuite. It is aimed at shipping, receiving and product labels and documents that otherwise need a separate printing tool or manual export. It is separate from RF-SMART's mobile data collection product.

How SummitIT connects to Oracle NetSuite

NetSuite add-on (RF-SMART printing solution)

RF-SMART lists SummitIT on its NetSuite page as its printing solution. It runs from NetSuite transactions and records so users print from the screen where they already work, rather than exporting data to a separate label program.

Template-driven output

Labels and documents are produced from templates that pull NetSuite fields. Template design, printer drivers and print routing are the practical integration work; confirm supported printers and formats with RF-SMART.

Setting it up

  1. 1Inventory the labelsList every label and document you print today: customer-specific shipping labels, pallet labels, item and lot labels, packing slips.
  2. 2Check printer compatibilityConfirm printer models, language (for example ZPL on thermal printers) and network access with RF-SMART before ordering.
  3. 3Install and permissionInstall the add-on in the NetSuite account and give print roles access only to the transactions they need.
  4. 4Build templatesCreate templates for each label using NetSuite fields. Include barcode symbology required by the customer or carrier.
  5. 5Route printersMap printers to locations or users so a warehouse prints to the dock printer, not the office one.
  6. 6Test with real transactionsPrint sample labels from real orders, scan them, and have customers or carriers confirm compliance labels where relevant.

What usually breaks

  • !Barcode content fails a customer compliance check because the template used the wrong field or data identifier.
  • !Labels print on the wrong printer because routing is by user, not by location.
  • !Item field changes (description length, new custom fields) overflow the label layout.
  • !Lot and expiry data missing on the transaction at print time, so receiving labels print blank.
  • !Template changes in production without a test copy, which stops the dock until reverted.
  • !Assuming SummitIT does scanning; it prints, while mobile data collection is a separate RF-SMART product.

A private AI layer across both systems

Label error triage

A private assistant can read print failures and the underlying transaction to explain whether the cause is missing data, a template field or printer routing.

Compliance label checks

Compare a customer's labeling requirements document to current template fields and list gaps for review.

Plain-language shipment questions

Ask which orders shipped today without a printed label or tracking number and get the NetSuite records.

Draft template changes

When a field changes, draft the template adjustment for a person to test and approve.

When something else fits better

  • NetSuite's native advanced PDF/HTML templates for packing slips and simple labels, if you do not need thermal printer control.
  • A dedicated label design product such as a standalone labeling package, when label design is complex or shared across several systems.
  • Carrier or shipping software that prints its own shipping labels, when shipping is the only label need.

Frequently asked questions

Is SummitIT a scanner app?

No. RF-SMART describes SummitIT as its printing add-on for NetSuite. Handheld scanning and data collection are handled by RF-SMART's separate mobile products.

Can it print customer-specific compliance labels?

Template-driven printing is designed for this kind of requirement, but confirm barcode formats and required fields with RF-SMART and test with the customer's scanner or compliance guide.

Does it work with any printer?

Supported printers and languages should be confirmed with RF-SMART. Thermal label printers are common, but do not assume every model is supported.

How does AI relate to label printing?

It helps with diagnosing failures, checking templates against requirements and answering shipment questions. It does not replace the print engine, and edits are drafted for approval.
