Garment Tech Pack Specification Template

A tech pack is the single document that tells the cutting room, the sewing line and the packing area what a style must be. This template captures the style header, fabric, trims, construction, measurements and packing so that nothing lives only in an email thread.

HPS means high point shoulder. Attach the sketch, colourways and artwork separately. Keep one revision number per change so that the floor never works from an old pack.

Want style data kept in step with your ERP?

We can review how tech pack revisions map to item and BOM records in your system.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use the template

Fill the header fields first: style number, revision and date. Then enter fabric, lining and construction in plain words that a line supervisor can follow. Complete the bill of trims and measurement tables in the exported document, print it, and sign it off. Issue it to the floor only after the buyer representative and your production manager have signed. When anything changes, raise the revision and withdraw the old copy from the line.

  • Use one style number per tech pack
  • Write fabric as composition, weight and finish
  • State stitch density in stitches per inch
  • Raise the revision on every change
  • Keep signed copies with the sample approval

What belongs in a tech pack

A working pack has five parts: the identity of the style, the materials, the construction, the size specification with tolerances, and the packing and labelling rules. Buyers differ in format, but missing any one of these is the usual cause of rejected first bulk lots. Measurements should be tied to named points of measure, with a tolerance in centimetres or inches stated for each, so that inline and final inspectors check the same thing.

  • Style header and revision
  • Fabric composition, GSM and finish
  • Trim list with placement
  • Construction and stitch details
  • Point of measure table with tolerances
  • Labels, folding and carton packing

Common mistakes and ERP notes

The most frequent failures are a spec that differs from the purchase order, a trim quantity that is not on the bill of materials, and an old revision still on the line. If you run an ERP, the style number and revision should map to the item and BOM revision so that the tech pack and the production order agree. Check that colour and size variants exist as item variants before you release the order. Treat this form as the controlled source and update the BOM from it, not the other way around.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a tech pack and a spec sheet?

A spec sheet usually lists measurements and tolerances only. A tech pack is wider: it adds materials, trims, construction, labels and packing, and often sketches and artwork. Factories use the tech pack to cost and make a style, and the spec sheet is one page inside it.

Who owns the tech pack in a factory?

Usually the merchandiser or product development team controls it, with the pattern maker and the production manager contributing. The important point is that one named person controls revisions and distributes signed copies to the cutting room, the sewing lines and the quality team.

Can I attach images to the exported file?

The template exports text and tables. Insert your sketches, colourways and artwork into the exported Word file, or attach them as separate pages in the PDF set. Keep the same revision number on every attached page.

How many revisions are normal?

Two to four before bulk is common for a new style, because fit comments and fabric changes arrive after samples. The number matters less than discipline: each revision is dated, signed and replaces the earlier copy on the floor.
