Infor M3 Cutover Plan Template
Cutover is a few days of tightly ordered work. This template lays out the sequence, owners, reconciliation points and rollback triggers so everyone knows what happens and who decides.

Rollback triggers
Inventory value variance above agreed tolerance after load. Failure of order to cash smoke test. Interface failures on top customer EDI that cannot be fixed within 4 hours.
Approvals
Adapt the sequence to your scope and dependencies. Rehearse the plan in at least one mock cutover and update durations from the actual timings.
Optional cutover review
Share your plan and get comments on sequencing, tolerances and rollback.
Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.
How to use the plan
Set the freeze, decision and go-live dates first, then work backward. Add every task with an owner and a realistic duration based on your mock conversions. Define reconciliation points where finance, warehouse and customer service confirm numbers before the next step runs. Add rollback triggers in advance so the go or no-go decision is based on agreed rules, not pressure. Export to Word or PDF and circulate to the steering group.
- Use actual mock cutover timings, not estimates
- Assign a named deputy for each critical owner
- Agree communication channels and a war room schedule
- Keep a decision log with time stamps
Sequence and dependencies
Load structures before transactions. Facilities, warehouses, item groups, customers, suppliers and items come first, then balances, then open documents. Finance reconciliation comes after inventory and open documents so the general ledger ties out. Interfaces are enabled last, after smoke tests. Check dependencies: a warehouse code missing from the setup will fail every balance line that uses it.
Go or no-go and rollback
Agree the criteria in writing. Typical criteria include reconciled inventory within tolerance, successful order to cash and procure to pay smoke tests, interfaces live for the top partners, and users trained with access. Rollback is only credible if the legacy system stays recoverable and the team has rehearsed the step. If rollback is impractical after a certain point, note that point in the plan so the steering group understands the commitment.
Common mistakes
Cutover plans fail on underestimated durations, missing owners, unclear freeze rules and late finance reconciliation. Others forget the human side: rest for the team, meals, and a clear escalation path. After go-live, plan hypercare with daily triage and a named group who can fix issues the same day.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long should the freeze window be?
It depends on volume and load speed. Many projects freeze over a weekend. The right answer comes from your timed mock conversions plus a buffer. If the mock took 30 hours, a 36 hour window is not enough once you add reconciliation and fixes.
Who makes the go or no-go decision?
The steering group or business sponsor, advised by the project manager, finance lead and IT lead. Decide the criteria earlier so the meeting checks facts against the list rather than debating from scratch.
Should we run parallel systems?
Short parallel runs are sometimes used for finance close, but running both systems for operations doubles the effort and invites data drift. Most projects choose a hard cutover with strong reconciliation and a short hypercare period.
What happens after go-live?
Hypercare, usually two to six weeks, with daily issue triage, quick fixes and user support. The cutover plan should name hypercare owners and the date when the project hands over to the support team.
