Oracle EBS Standard Reports by Module and Sample XML for BI Publisher

Question
oracle ebs standard reports

  • bi publisher sample xml oracle ebs

Short answer

Oracle EBS standard reports are concurrent programs run from Standard Request Submission (View > Requests > Submit a New Request) and limited by each responsibility's request group. To redesign one in BI Publisher, run the program so it produces XML output, save that XML as sample data, load it into the template builder, and register the template against the program's data definition.

Applies to: Oracle E-Business Suite R12.1 and R12.2 with XML Publisher / BI Publisher. Report names vary slightly by release and installed modules.

Run a standard report and get sample XML

  1. 1Log in with a responsibility for the module and choose View > Requests, then Submit a New Request, and select Single Request.
  2. 2Search the program name, enter the parameters, and submit. If it is missing, your request group does not include it; ask an administrator to add it.
  3. 3Check the output in View > Requests and confirm the output format. For BI Publisher reports, the program generates XML first and then applies a template.
  4. 4To get raw XML, run the program with output format XML where the program allows it, or use the XML Publisher Administrator tools to retrieve data for a data definition, and download the output file.
  5. 5Save the XML to a file, open Word with the BI Publisher Desktop add-in, and use Insert > Sample XML to load it.
  6. 6Build the template with fields, tables and groups from the XML, then upload it as an RTF or Excel template in XML Publisher Administrator under the matching data definition.
  7. 7Submit the program again with the template and check layout, totals and page breaks.

Finding standard reports by module

Standard reports are grouped by module and by request group. In General Ledger, typical reports cover trial balance, journals and account analysis. Payables has invoice registers and trial balances, Receivables has aging and statements, Purchasing has purchase order and receiving reports, and Inventory has valuation and transaction reports. Names differ by release, so search the program list by keyword rather than relying on a printed list.

To see every report available to a responsibility, check its request group in the System Administrator responsibility under Security > Responsibility > Request. To see all programs in the system, query the concurrent program tables.

SELECT cp.user_concurrent_program_name, cp.concurrent_program_name, a.application_short_name
FROM   fnd_concurrent_programs_vl cp, fnd_application a
WHERE  a.application_id = cp.application_id
AND    a.application_short_name = 'GL'
ORDER  BY cp.user_concurrent_program_name;

What sample XML looks like

BI Publisher data is XML with a root element, repeating groups and fields. The template builder only needs the structure and a few rows to map fields. If a program does not give you XML directly, build the structure by hand from the program's data template or query and fill in a few rows.

A small sample is enough for layout work; keep one with a long text value and one with an empty value, so you can test wrapping and blank handling.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<DATA_DS>
  <P_ORG_ID>204</P_ORG_ID>
  <G_ORDERS>
    <ORDER_NUMBER>10045</ORDER_NUMBER>
    <CUSTOMER_NAME>Acme Industrial</CUSTOMER_NAME>
    <ORDER_DATE>2026-09-14</ORDER_DATE>
    <G_LINES>
      <LINE_NUMBER>1</LINE_NUMBER>
      <ITEM_CODE>AB-1001</ITEM_CODE>
      <ORDERED_QTY>25</ORDERED_QTY>
      <UNIT_PRICE>112.50</UNIT_PRICE>
    </G_LINES>
  </G_ORDERS>
</DATA_DS>

Registering the template

In XML Publisher Administrator, a data definition ties a concurrent program to its XML data source, and templates attach to the definition. Create the template with the same code as the program, upload the file, choose language and territory, and set the output types.

Then submit the program as a normal request. Changes to templates need no code deployment, which makes layout fixes quick, but treat them as controlled changes in production and keep the template file in version control.

Common pitfalls

  • !Designing a template on made-up XML whose structure differs from the real data.
  • !Forgetting that the report is not in the responsibility's request group.
  • !Editing a delivered template in place instead of copying it.
  • !Using only one or two sample rows, then failing on long text or empty values.
  • !Changing layouts in production without testing and a rollback copy.

How an ERP-grounded AI assistant handles this

Many report requests are really questions that a standard report only partly answers. An assistant grounded in your EBS data can answer them directly and show the query, and when a formal printable output is needed, it can help draft the data template and sample XML for BI Publisher. Netray runs it on-prem so reports containing financial data are not sent outside.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I run standard reports in Oracle EBS?

Use View > Requests > Submit a New Request in the module responsibility, select Single Request, and choose the program. You can only see programs included in the responsibility's request group.

How do I get sample XML for an EBS report?

Run the program with XML output where available, or retrieve the data for its data definition, and download the file. If neither is possible, build a small XML file by hand from the program's query structure.

Can I change the layout of a standard report?

For BI Publisher reports, yes: copy the delivered template, edit the copy in Word or Excel, and upload it. For older Oracle Reports programs, customization requires changes to the report definition, which is more involved.

Why can I not see a report in the list?

Your responsibility's request group does not include it. A system administrator can add the program to the request group or give you a responsibility that has it.

How to Create a BI Publisher Report in Oracle EBS

An EBS BI Publisher report has three parts: a data model that produces XML data (usually a SQL-based data template), a Data Definition registered in the XML Publisher Administrator responsibility, and an RTF or Excel template built with the BI Publisher desktop tools and uploaded against that definition. A concurrent program then ties them together and runs the same way any standard EBS report does.

How to Register a Custom Concurrent Program in Oracle EBS

Registering a custom concurrent program in EBS takes three linked steps in the System Administrator responsibility: register the Executable pointing at your actual code object, register the Program that references that executable and defines its parameters, then add the program to a Request Group so it is visible under the target responsibility's Submit Request window.

Oracle EBS Month-End Close Checklist: GL, AP, AR

Close sub-ledgers before General Ledger: finish and account for all Payables and Receivables transactions, close the AP and AR periods, transfer journals to GL through Create Accounting, reconcile sub-ledger to GL, then close the GL period last. Closing GL before a sub-ledger is fully accounted is the single most common cause of a reopen.

SQL to Find Responsibilities Assigned to a User in Oracle EBS

Join FND_USER to FND_USER_RESP_GROUPS on USER_ID, then to FND_RESPONSIBILITY_TL on RESPONSIBILITY_ID and APPLICATION_ID to get the responsibility name, filtering the END_DATE columns to show only currently active assignments. This is the standard query DBAs and support teams use instead of clicking through System Administrator > Security > User > Define for every user.

Fix FRM-40735: WHEN-VALIDATE-RECORD Trigger Raised Unhandled Exception ORA-06508

FRM-40735 with ORA-06508 almost always means a PL/SQL package used by the form was recompiled while your session still held the old cached state, or the trigger's own exception handling does not trap a real data error. Exit the form completely and re-enter it; if the error repeats for all users, recompile invalid objects on the database and check for a bad custom trigger.

Oracle EBS Concurrent Manager Will Not Start: How to Fix It

A concurrent manager that will not start in Oracle EBS is almost always one of three things: the node registered in FND_NODES no longer matches the actual hostname (common after cloning), stale OS processes are blocking a fresh start, or the database and listener the manager connects to are unreachable. Check the internal manager log, verify the node name, clear stale processes, and restart with adcmctl.sh.
